I have planned a dio. that takes place in market garden
Its called A BRIDGE TOO FAR (has that been taken already?[?])
in which the 82nd airborne is assaulting an occupied german bridge over one of hollands rivers… I was wondering if there is a company that makes a big bridge section
(if youve ever played MOH frontline the bridge im talking about is structured like that one)
Hi, Yeah i think it was the Nijmegen Bridge, i have also played the MOh frontline game. What scale are you doing?.I dont know of a company that makes bridge’s like the Nijmegen bridge you might have to make it from scratch should be easy to make.
-SSpanzer.
with all respect, the bridge too far your talking about is the Arnhem rhinebridge.
the rhinebridge is renamed after John Dutton Frost on Sept.16th 1978.
Frost was a Lt.kolonel in the first british airbornebrigade’s second battalion
you can do a google search on scale bridges.
there’s a compagny makes them at your specs out of stainless steel.
i can’t remember who it is but it was based in the USA.
if you can’t find it and decide to scratchbuilt it let me know.
i live 10 miles from nijmegen and 50 miles from Arnhem and i can send you some pics of the nijmegen waalbrug or the Arnhem rhinebridge .

hans v- that must be cool living right there
HANSV;
With the utmost respect. You are correct in the identification of the “Bridge Too Far” being Arnhem Bridge. However the question raised was about the bridge assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. The 82nd was assigned the task of taking and holding the Nijmegen Bridge during Operation Market Garden.
A_Drust. to build the Nijmegen bridge in 1/35 scale is not going to be an easy build. Unfortunately I know of no produced kits. However, you can build the bridge it will just take time. http://strikehold504th.com/holland.php This link will give you an idea of the size of the bridge.
I hope this helps.
HansV. - As a retired soldier and the grandson of one of the liberators of Holland. On behalf of him and all his comrades. “You’re welcome”
My grandfather never forgot the people of Holland. I only wish he had been able to return to the Netherlands before he died. So thank you for remembering.
Cheers;
Gregory
A_Drust-you’re right it’s a very nice and pretty area to live.
Gregory,you’re correct i overread the actual question [:I] .
I’m sorry your dad couldn’t make it back to our little country.
He would have felt very welcome here.
May he rest in peace.
I did a quick research about this topic and found a few interesting things
which i thought i’d share with you.
The operation was named Market.
Market was the codename for the airborne actions.
Garden was the codeword for the groundtroops.
http://www.go2war2.nl/nld_print.asp?artikelid=1030
It’s in Dutch but this online translator http://www.freetranslation.com/
you can translate it to English.
The first bridge in the Market operation was de Dommelbridge at St.Oedenrode which is taken by the US 101th Airborne division.
This assignment was actually for 4 bridges: aa bridge & zuidwillemsvaart bridges at Veghel, wilhelminakanaal at Son and the above mentioned Dommel bridge.
The second bridge was the Zuidwillemsvaart at Son was taken by the 501 regiment of the US 101 Airborne div.
The third bridge was the Maas bridge at Grave was taken by the 82th div.
This bridge(5 Mile from here)is known by the locals as the rainbow colored bridge.
The 4th bridge was the Waal bridge at Nijmegen taken again
by the 82th div.
The 5th and last was the Rhine bridge at Arnhem captured by the 1th British Div.together with the Polish Airborne brigade .
hope this helps[:)]
Hans

My personal favorite movie is on this very subject. A Bridge Too Far. I have the book seen the movie numerous times and I have the game. Close Combat II A Bridge Too Far. I look forward to seeing your dio A_drust.
Guys I dont think hes going to scratch the whole thing because he said section of a big bridge.
I believe I’ve seen a dio about one of the involved bridges in FSM from a couple of years ago, it was huge.
However, last year I saw another “modern” bridge dio about our Belgian troops protecting a bridge in Kosovo, it was big, but it would have been huge if the builder didn’t apply a little trick.
He built only half the bridge, only the side where the action was, was built, the bridge itself ended in mid-air. It may sound strange, but it turned out very well.
BTW are we switching over to wide-screen on this threat now ???
verlinden productions make a great bridge designed for central europe
whats more it comes in sections and can be as long or short as you want
why not try them
