Marin PBM-5 Mariner A "moldy oldie" PICS

One of those kits I built as a kid and really thought was “neato”. Of course, back then it was "rip 'em off the sprues, tube glue EVERYWHERE and maybe brush painted! Rereleased by Revell Germany, (missed the Convair Tradewinds - another favorite) this kit holds up pretty well today. The rivet detail is restrained and the panel lines are a mixture of raised and indented. I only used a little filler on the fuselage sink marks and seams. The Octopus grappling the ship is a great squadron insignia for these birds.

wow!!! cool I love this odd bird! congratulations on this build, flawless paint job.

I hope build the 1/72 kit in the colours of the Armada Argentina some day.

best regards!

Jeremias

What a coincidence. Am finishing mine. About about 75 % done. A little different color scheme though. A nice old flying boat and a good modeling subject as you don’t see many being built, if any. Nice finish and the build looks real good. Thanks for the pics.

Another Beauty from your bench [tup]. Thanks for sharing.

Nice job, Mstanley. I have a lot of fun with the old Revell kits too. Here is the PBM-3 I made from the kit some years ago.

Great builds. keep em coming guys. I have a liking for these oldies. Old kits for old modelers eh.

All the best.

Great build. I really like boats with wings[(-D]

Hey hey hey, those oldies aren’t just for older modelers. I love 'em. I just picked up the complete MPC 1/72 “Air Combat Series” from 1977. I love the challenge of making something nice from a kit that isnt loaded with details, doesnt have resin or PE, and features the cruedest molding possible. lol

Excellent!

Great lookin’ beautiful bird!!! You can’t beat wings on boats!!![:D] The last time I went to the museum at NAS Pensacola they were trying to rebuild on of these. I think.

Man, those are strange looking birds! Nicely done Mstanley. [tup]
