Marder III H FINISHED!

Some of you may remember (or not) this build in a WIP thread of mine. I had recieved this for Christmas and had been working on it since then on and off. Now I finished it and am able to post the finished pictures. Any comments and suggestions always welcomed. Also, if you notice a gap between the side shields and fighting compartment roof, that is because it is not glued on so the interior can be viewed.

And a picture to make this small tank look slightly menacing

Brandon that really looks great. Subtle weather like a vehicle just getting into the fray. If I may though, even with the light weathering the markings are too clean. The muzzle break is to dark. I wish I rememebred where I saw it but there is a long article out there somewhere that discusses the tendency to make those too dark. Regardless… I like it.

Ahhh yes, know that you mention it I do remember that WIP…seriously.[;)]

Anyways that Marder is a stunner, modelfreaks![tup] Overall a superb build, and I only have one small suggestion. Tone down those decals with some weathering, they stand out a bit too much.

Very cool. Nicely done at that. I too have made the same mistake on the muzzle as well. It was a vogue weathering staple some years back and I imitated it not knowing that it wouldn’t have been so pronounced.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I think that the muzzle looks a little darker in the photos, but still, it is a little dark. Also, now that you point it out, those decals are shimmering! But seriously, thanks for the suggestions so that I can keep making little improvements in my builds!

wing_nut- I’m happy that you like the subtle weathering. I was shooting for a tank that was toned down in weathering so I could try something new.

mg.mikael- Those pictures really help me notice those decals now that you point it out. I guess I was so anxious to finish that I didn’t pay much attention.

tigerman- I’ve got to make sure that I keep the muzzle in mind for my next build. Although, knowing me, I usually like to pile on the weathering. Hopefully I’ll be able to stray from that concept when it comes to the muzzle.

Again thanks for the comments and critque! Also, both comments and critique welcome

Congrats on getting this one done! The only suggestion to add to what the others have pointed out would be to approach the tools and spare tracks a little differently on the fenders. As you have them now, they are shiny steel and not representative of how the actual items would look. The long rods that you have painted as all-metal are actually the gun cleaning rods and would’ve been wood with metal tips for screwing together to form a long swab. The spare tracks would be normal steel that would oxidize with exposure so a dark brown/oxidized color would be more appropriate there as well.

Keep up the good work, looking forward to your next one! [tup]

Really nice build and the paintwork is spot on well done, give the tracks a wash with a darkbrown and tone items down as sugested and youve got yourself a killer.[tup]

Thanks for the input bodge and wbill76! The tools are the hardest thing for me to do. I dont know what colors to paint them or what they were like in real life so I take a guess as to what colors I should use. But thanks for the tips on what colors so I can save that for next time. Also, I tried doing a wash on the tracks but a lot of it rubbed away when wiping the excess paint off and during weathering. Thanks again- and the next one Im about to finish doesn’t have tracks to put a wash on… but don’t worry, it isn’t one of those flying contraptions[:)]

Nice build! Are the tracks on backwards? (that happened a lot in the field, by the way)

Either way, nice weathering and toning!

I like it Brandon…Nice color…

Thanks for checkin it out guys!

jt- I believe the tracks are correct. I think the little “V” shape on each link is supposed to point upwards but Im not an expert on tracks. Although since that happened in the field I guess I would have a good excuse if they were backwards. Also, I’m happy that you like the weathering!

Guney- Thanks for commenting about the color! I wanted to go with something different so that my shelf isn’t filled with tanks that are all camoflauged. [:P]

Ditto what wbill76 said. Dirty up the tools and spare tracks. But overall, a very nice job. [tup][tup]

Don

Nothing to worry about with the tracks Brandon, you’ve got them on the “correct” way. [;)]

Yeah, I’m not exactly an expert either. I’ve done more research (meaning, I’ve googled a bunch of Marder III pics and compared the tracks to yours), and yours are definitely on right. [#toast]

Thanks for taking a look at the Marder Pordoi! I’m happy that you like it and I’ll have to put some rust on those spares and work with the tools a little.

wbill76 and jthurston- Thanks for checking if the tracks are right. Now that I’ve got the “correct way” down I’ll have to work on some more weathering for them.

Brandon that looks brilliant, just brilliant, you can never have enough 38t chassis.

Terry.
