maquette's 38T G finished (pics)

hi fella’s, here is the maquette offering of the 38T G its not too bad a kit but nowhere near the tristar kit but i had it so i built it and overall i didnt have many problems just the usual sink holes and knockout marks to deal with, i decided to try some different weathering techniques out on it that im not too sure about at the moment so thanks for looking and let me know what you think,

OKAY, this is the third one this year and January isn’t
over with yet. Looks like you’re headed for a record. [:O]
The finish is a beaut. [#toast] Looks like real metal,
especially in 2-5-6! And the mud?.. [tup] I think looks
just right.
[BH] Biffa, can you do no wrong??

Steve

The factory keeps on humming Ron, keep it up!

looks good biffa! One thing I see is the left idler in your rear shot photo is leaning inward on the top and outward at the bottom making it look like it’s suspension was loose Weathering looks great man!

Another fine build Ron. You’re on pace to double your output from last year. LOL That’s good for us too. Your wife must be a lonely woman. [:D]

What new techniques did you try out?

Always a nice build Ron, and January is not even over yet.

Just 2 things;

  • You may want to add rain steaks or just streaks for the turret.
  • The tail light needs to be painted green

Ben

Really well finished, Ron.

That’s one filthy beast. Solid job on the Maquette kit.

Your right Ron it looks a finekit and you done a fine job on it, congrats.

Regards,

Terry.

Another great looking one Ron! As some said previously, I’m curious to know what you tried different this time. You put those kits together faster than a real factory could [tup] Congrats!

Well Ron, as usual your construction is very good, the dirt is certainly realistically applied. The vehicle looks a little dark to me though (just my taste). Could be the contrast effect against that stark white background. I like to see the Panzer Gray, but that’s just me, no bearing on your preference of course. You might consider MIG “rust” pigment on the exhaust and muffler, I have had good luck applying it straight over flat black, for a very realistic (IMHO) look.

Overall a solid build, congratulations.

Steve

Ron that’s a great build, just one question. The weathering is better than anything I could do.

Didn’t the “G” have the bow machinegun deleted?

My references show it deleted on the “G” with a circular cover over the opening, but still installed on the “E” and “F”. I know there are some changes with the engine decking changes on the “G” as well. Just one of the problems with the older kits. I would guess that the Marquette is the old Italeri kit.

Mike

I’ve seen pictures of G’s with the bow MG.

I echo steves’ thoughts-- nice one ron!![tup][tup]–tread[:P]

hi guys thanks for all the great comments i appreciate the feedback,

about the techniques i was trying out well it was more about acheiving a certain style than the technique used. i have seen old pics of really dusty dirty vehicles and in the old colour pics ( or coloured b&w ones) the tanks looked a stark black against the different shades of dirt mud and dust so what i was doin was weathering the tank heavily then goin back over the upper hull and airbrushing a very thinned black to try get some depth and get the old photo look.

like steve (crockett) mentioned it is a sharp contrast and i wouldnt do this very often but this one is growing on me, i also used some stuff i have called dry temp its a powder and i assume its similar to pigments( i have never used them so im not sure) i have a big tub of brown i bought ages ago so i decided to use it along with the multitude of washes i use to help with the mud effect and i liked this also but it needs some fine tuning so all said and done im happy with it and ready to move on,

hi james, its funny but the idlers are perfectly straight but the photo definatly makes them look crooked i noticed when i took the pics it must be a optical illusion [:)]

hey ben, i tried rain streaks and normally i use them a lot but here it kinda took from the finish i was after and the tail light got covered in the of the million washes i will go back and fix that along with the exhaused i agree it could use a little colour i kinda spent so much time looking over everything else i didnt pay no attention to it,

i telsono, i think you are correct about the hull mg when i first read your post i was sure i had seen G’s with hull mg but for the life in me i cannot find one now so its one of those learning things [:)] the maquette kit and the italeri kit are not the same though the maquette is much better imho but i still concider this practice for the tristar one heh.

lastly although this is the 3rd kit this month they were all built last year just in various stages of painting and there is only one left to finish then its back to building, just for the record. [(-D] sorry for the boring reply and there is nothing more to see here. [:)]

[8] Now I get it. Any good factory [:D] is going to have an efficient assembly line. What we are seeing here [:P] is a clearance of the '06 model run inventory. I guess you have a 0% interest payment plan in the works too… [(-D] right?

…Nonetheless, [#toast] I’m countin’ it as three.

(By the way, I’ll be gruntin’ out my first one [yuck] for this year soon.)

I really like the weathering.

Great job, as per usual. It is a little bit of a departure from your usual style, and IMO there is just too much mud in some areas.

As per the other forum, any comments on the kit tracks?
