Man suffers from head injury...

My wife says it is obvious the above will be my headline, sooner rather than later. So I am getting back into modelling after a long lay off, two group builds (one I initiated) bringing my paint stocks up to speed and just realizing what I need to do from a skills perspective, long ways to go fer sure…

So what do I do…pick up a braille scale (1/72) vac form F4F-3…YAHOO CITY !!! I have been doing some drywalling around the house so why not right? I’ve got mud and replacement sheets to replace the panels damaged from me banging my head against the wall…

In all seriousness now, I want to do a Pearl Harbour F4F-3A…Detail & Scale book and photos extremely helpful…but all the AM seems to be geared towards the -4 model, makes sense they were the predominant model. So now I have totally lost it and am thinking of scratchbuilding some of this (insert maniacal laughter here)…

I need some guidance here, short of someone talking me out of this, what is a good baseline from a supplies and material point of view for a scratchbuild project in 1/72…

I mis=spoke it will not be a vac form, but hey the basic idea is still there…

joe if you are going to scratchbuild i recomend a couple of things. first get an assortment of rod, tube, and square styrene stock. i also recomend going to walmart or target or kmart and getting a few of the plastic forsale type signs. you will need a good ref book. but if there are any specific pics you need let me know. the f4f-3 and -3a are a relatively (operative word used) easy conversion. any help i can give email me.

Well I can’t help you with the scratchbuilding as I have problems with OOB. But I can give you a little research as far as the units involved. Both of these units had F4F-3s’ at Pearl. USMC VMF-211 (11) USN VF-3 had one AC there. The unit markings were pretty standard at the time so there should be no major surprises there.
