Making Decals

Hi Gang.

I have decal paper I purchased from my hobby shop and wanna try making my own decals. I have HP 1210 all in one so I have a scanner too. What program do I use to create my decals in? I have heard of Power Point being used but for the life of me I can’t figure it out.

Any help I can get on this will be of help.
Jeff

I have used word, visio, photoshop, & paint to make decals. There’s really no one decalling program, basically any software that lets your print out some graphics or pictures can be used. For example, if you use a word processor, include a picture in the file and then print it out. That’s realy it.

Thanks waikong… I am working on it.

Hello Jeff

I use both the Testors Decal Maker program and Paint Shop Pro 9 which is now owned by Corel but a lot cheaper then the Corel suite or Adobe PhotoShop.

Paint Shop Pro 9 can be downloaded at www.corel.com . The cost to own is $119.00 to download but you can do a try before you buy.

Testors Decal Maker is created by the Sure Thing and you can look here for it www.decalgear.com/DG

I use a Cannon Scanner (CanoScan LiDE 30) and two different printers HP DeskJet 1120C Professional and a Epson Stylus CX6400.

The Epson Printer is one made for printing digital pictures and the ink is called DuraBrite which is made to withstand fading for up to 80 years.

I only use Testors paper both the white background and the transparent. I have tried others and found they do not work as well, I also use testors sealing spray a must have so the decals do not bleed when put into water.

I have do all my work in Paint Shop Pro now and print from it as well, I only use the Testor software now an again, it has some nice premade decals to steal and beatup in PSP. [:p]

If i have transparent decal paper (not white) which type of the print is the best for my decals (Laser or Ink Jet printers don`t have white color)

Jeff,

As mentioned above, anything that allows you to work with graphics will do to some extent or another. I use Corel Draw Suite 12 and also the Paint Shop Pro series (Since 7.0). They are very user friendly and simpler to use. I am fortunate enough to own an ALPS 5000MD printer, and use it exclusively for decaling. A nice inkjet works fine, just make sure to spray a coule of light coats of clear gloss lacquer over them before dipping!!

I use paper from Bel Decal, Inc…http://www.beldecal.com
High-quality paper and outstanding customer service for a decent price (I’m not affiliated with them in any way).

To date, ALPS printers are the only ones capable of actually printing in White…all else should be printed on white paper.

Have fun, and good luck…it’s another obsession (er, I mean Hobby!) to enjoy!
