Has anyone built a Aoshima model and what is the quality like? Also worried that the instructions will be in Japanese only. Also has anyone found any other model kits from this movie(s)? I am no good at scratch building but it might be the only way.

This is the only model I have seen of a vehicle from the movies. The others, just like the cars in the movie, would need to be modified from other existing kits.
On a side note, The Road Warrior was the second movie in the series. Mad Max was the first movie. In the US, it was commonly referred to as Mad Max: The Road Warrior. The third (and worst) movie was Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. The first two were pretty good, with The Road Warrior being the best, in my opinion. The 4th installment, Mad Max: Fury Road is supposed to be in production now and released in '15. It looks pretty good and is supposed to take place between the first two movies.
Thanks for the link. Looks like the kit is of fairly good quality so just have to justify the cost of the kit now. I agree that Mad Max (the original) is by far the best. Mad Max 2 was good and parts of Beyond Thunderdome (the parts in the compound. It went off track in the desert/kids scenes) . But having said that I have all 3 videos and have been to Silverton where there is a copy of the Interceptor and will be going there in a few months to visit the Mad Max Museum. The 4th movie is due out in 2015 and there will be a 5th & 6th with the script for the 5th finished and the 6th almost finished. Like the Bond movies will be interesting to see how the new Max goes! Fury Road (4th movie) also stars Hugh Keays-Byrne who played the Toecutter in the original movie.

Yes the other vehicles can be converted and scratch built, just like in the movie.
The Mack truck with a tanker trailer would not need much for styrene materials to create. PSP - perforated steel plate (traction plates in desert WWII and tarmacs in Vietnam) in 1/35 scale would pass for the 1/24 scale auto the truck would be in. These guarded the trailer wheels. the fortifications on the tanker are all made from basic angle iron - available in styrene. Barb wire can be scratch built.
The various chase vehicles are a late 70’s Ford truck with a chopped cab and others. Obviously some vehicles are just a chassis , motor and drivetrain built into ‘post apocalyptic’ desert vehicles. Start with the recognisable vehicles available in kits and as your confidence grows with scratch building tackle the other vehicles.

Well I have placed an order for the kit which will take up to 4 weeks to arrive. Not sure when I will do this kit as I have 4 revel cars, 3 Tamiya F1 cars, small plane kit, and truck and trailer to do as well as the Cutty Sark I am working on. Would like to leave this kit until I have learnt how to weather the kits and do not want to stuff this one up as it take so long to get one and costs more then most kits.

Agreed Bon Scott’s era of the band produced the best R+R. Yet for the band to find a replacement lead singer and produce a Lp in under a year is remarkable. For that Lp to become the top selling R+R to date is amazing! -'forget the hurst ‘cause I’ll never die…’
Far as the weathering get some pigments. They are basically powdered pastille’s with a binder that adheres to flat paint. They are easy and versatile to use and very realistic. Their drawback is fingerprints if you handle the model and clear coats hide most of their effect. Best to use after the model is secured to a base or if handling is required wear gloves.

Aoshima kit, i’ve built 3. the latest version has some corrections so get that version. The instructions are in exploded diagram form (ie minimal text) so you should have no issues following it.

Good one Les. i think you’ll find it fairly good kit to build. I asked Aoshima if they were planning on making a MM1 version, and they said they’d love to, it was just a matter of licensing negotiations with WB.
