Mad City Modelers Contest, March 15, 2025 in Madison

The Mad City Modelers is having their annual contest on March 15, 2025 in Madison, WI at the Monona Terrace Convention Center in downtown Madison.
Is anybody else planning to go? I’ll be there with another modeling friend. But I’m unsure how many models I’ll be bringing for competition.

FSM will be there! If you’re going, make sure to swing by to say hi and also check your models frequently because we may have tagged one of them for a photo.

I was planning to go but unfortunately “life’s calling” is getting into the way. Hopefully next year will work out.

Sorry to hear you won’t be able to make it. Do try and make it for next year if you can. Next year is the Mad City Modelers 30th Anniversary Show. Hopefully, they’ll have something really good planned.

I’ll do my best to be there! Do you know if the club is going to try and stick with that venue? I still remember when that contest was held in Cottage Grove in that banquet hall.

I remember Cottage Grove as well. Glad they moved out of that space as I thought it was too small.
I honestly don’t know if the Monona Terrace will be the permanent site for future Mad City contests. It’s either that or the Alliant Energy Center Exhibition Hall, or some other place. Where Mad City goes in future years depends on money, dates, location, and any other factors.

Here’s a few more pics and/or information on the Madison contest.

The terrace is a beautiful venue for a show. I hope that the weather is warm and sunny for you.

@MR_TOM_SCHRY
From what I’m reading of the weather forecast, it’ll be windy, possibly a slight chance of rain, and in the upper 50’s or low 60’s.

Wow! Thanks for posting these photos. I really wish that I could’ve made it down there because there’s some amazing work on those tables. How were the vendors?

@MR_TOM_SCHRY
The vendor area was moderately ok. Though I didn’t buy a single thing while I was there. If I would’ve gotten my tax refund before the contest, I would’ve bought a few things, but I didn’t. :cry:
I saw a few vendors with a bunch of 1/700 scale ships. But that’s not my “cup of tea” so to speak as I prefer 1/350 scale. And whatever there was for 1/350 scale was few and far between and still too high in price for me.
Anyway, there was plenty of armor and aircraft and automotive around. Very little or non-existant on anything sci-fi or figures in the vendor area. Was looking for decals too, but hardly any vendor brought any.

Here’s a few pics of a special display by Paul Boyer and also a few pics of the venue from 1 year ago when the Mad City contest was at Monona Terrace in 2024. The contest this year was in the same area as a year ago which was the Level 1 Exhibition Hall area. The vendor area, raffle area, etc. was set up the same way. The pics of the venue are credited to Alan Zais.

Paul B. does an amazing job on his 1/72 scale builds and that’s an awesome display. I’m like you, 1/700 scale is too tiny for these shaky sausage fingers and tired eyes and those 1/350 scale kits can be quite pricey for a fixed income modeler. Hopefully we can meet up for next year’s show.

Thank you for sharing your photos. A lot of great looking models in many categories.
