I would assume that there are multiple colour schemes for the fighters depending on the environment that they are fighting in. Same as with modern aircraft, so feel free to go wild. Plus, there are plenty of 1/72 markings out there to help you out.
Wish I had the time and money otherwise I would rather be doing a “Super Ostrich” or the “Elint Seeker” Valkyrie.
Wow I just found this GB. I haven’t logged in for a while. When does it end?
Since it’s a pretty small subject, relatively speaking, it’s a long build. It will end sometime in 2006. Probably later in the year. We will think about closing the build later next year.
Man, I went crazy this weekend a spent some cash on this Hobby.(air brush, paint, putty, gap filler, thinner, cleaner, Dukes of Hazzard kit) Luckily I am single with an understanding girlfriend, so I did not have to answer to anyone or justify my purchases. Hehehehe.
I did work on my super valkyrie this weekend. I laid down the primer and began assembly. The question I have is this: I want to fill in the seams on the arms and legs. Should I use putty or gap filler?
I purchased both over the weekend. Just not sure which one will work the best.
As always your advice and comments are greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by “gap filler”? (please excuse my igonorance) Do you mean gap filling CA? If so, I would use plain old putty. CA drys stronger than styrene and you won’t be able to sand it easily.
I’ve used Zap Gap for glueing and sanding on the spot. It’s quicker than using putty but the V-man is right about it not sanding as easy. If you glue two pieces with CA and use some accelerator, it’s OK because the freshly cured adhesive is still soft enough to sand easily. But if you do not sand it right away, the glue can be rock hard (depending on the brand) and you will end up sanding away the plastic around the glue.
Jeeze! guys, thanks for reminding me I need to get some more CA!
I belive it is gap filling CA. The attendant at the hobby shop called it gap filler.
Thanks for the help
Yup, that’s the stuff. Generically called CA, short for Cyanoacrylate. aka super glue.
Stuff dries hard as a rock, so I wouldn’t use it if you need to sand. (I never tried sanding after using accelerator, as Aurora-7 suggests…)
Stuff like Zap Gap CA is best used as filler when you want to build and build and build without having to wait for putties to dry. Plus it makes for a stonger bond. For most construction I use things like Pro Amber Weld or Tenax but if it looks like I’m going to join something that will have a bit of a gap or warpage doesn’t allow a regular liquid cement to hold two pieced together, I’ll use Zap Gap.
Is it to late for me to get in on this GB? I have two builds going on right now but I really would like to build a VF-1 along with you guys.
It’s not too late!
Welcome to the build! [#welcome] What make/scale/model of the VF-1 are you looking to do?
I am gonna build a 1/72 Hasegawa VF-1 Fighter. Unless I find a VF-0D before then.
Check out Hobby Link Japan’s site
I got my VF-0D from HLJ earlier this year and my only “complaint” is that it takes a few weeks for your order to get here. I placed an order with them for a VF-0S, SV-51 and Tenjin Hidetak’s book on the 9th and I got notice this morning that they’re on their way. My previous order with them was placed on 1 Nov for a VF-22S and a VF-0S w/Ghost and the shipping notice came to me on the 8th. You used to be able to track your orders, but I’m not sure you can anymore. Anyway, I’ll post when they start arriving.
Ooooh, ModelBase is working on a new design for a base for Macross kits. It’s gonna be the Skull Squadron emblem! This is the prelimnary design that was posted at www.macrossworld.com
Not really made much progress, need to get seriously cracking here. Got a bit sidetracked with 2 builds for someone: Crusher Joe - Dongo(1/12) Gasaraki - Ishtar Mk II(1/35)
Same here. There are 100+ decals on the YF-19. It’s taking forever.
I think I am gonna build a VF-1S Fighter and the corresponding Battroid since I had both kits in my stash. My question is this though, one of my modeling weak points is painting white, anything white including airbrushing, brush painting, any white kills me. Since the traditional VF-1S is white what brand paint would cover well and not cause me to have to do twelve coats? I generally use Tamiya Acrylics as well as Gunze acrylics. Any ideas?
I plan on getting started tomorrow, and doing these in conjunction with my other two builds an F-15C and a P-51D that I am building to represent the pair I saw fly together this summer at the St. Louis Fair and Air Show.
What was the question / problem?
whoops I guess I forogt that part. My question is this, what brand of white paint can I use that will cover well in only one or two coats?
