Macross GB

You guys ever look at what’s being discussed in the Macross World models forum? I’t could make a VF lover weep with joy.[BH]

VINMAN, noticed your progress pics. Quick question. On your preshading, do you apply only after primer or can you do it after your first coat of paint? Also, is that considered as a “wash” or is that something completely different. Sorry if the questions sound dumb, but I am getting back into the hobby after many years and all I remember then was just to build them out of the box. Now, it’s so different. Any advice from yourself or from any other is welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Will start to get cracking on my Minmay Guard this weekend.

Start will be assembling the first major sections and maybe painting them.
Due to the number of decals for this kit I will be doing one major section after the other, rather than my normal build along procedure.

You SHOULD pre-shade AFTER you prime. (For some reason I was lazy and did not prime…I’m probably going to pay for it later…) The primer should be the first thing you put onto the plastic. It helps with paint adhesion and evens out colors. A “wash” is completely different. A wash is applied as one of the last steps. Before your final gloss/flat finish.

And don’t be sorry. No question is stupid. If no one asks, then this place would grind to a halt. [:)]

Welcome back to the hobby and Good Luck!

Here’s something to get you in a Macross mood:

Thank you for that link. I gotta love Google, it’s not blocked at work like any other sites showing video usually are. [tup]

I am starting tonight for good on my Minmay guard, just got the last color I needed(radome).

Will start with the backpack and some assemblies on the arms and legs, prior to tackling the areas with lots of decals.

If everything goes well the battroid and the 1/100 Nataku will be primed this weekend.

no luck at my lhs, so im still looking. ill probably try ebay.

Progress Pics…
Major painting and clear coat (future) done. I’m gonna tackle the decals next…

Ugh, I gotta just get 'em done! [:D]

Vinman, put me down for 1/170 scale. Super Valkyrie VF-1S. Will be starting this week. Will keep the GB posted.

Okay, I can’t resist. I’ve got a VF-19, VF-22 and VF-0 ready to go. I want to finish up two existing GBs first before I start on those, but I’m in!

Cobrahistorian just sent me this link which I think y’all will like. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8325577713966755008&q=macross

It’s not directly related to modeling, but should provide a great source of inspiration for this build

Here’s where I had left off on my Hasaegawa VF-1A Battroid a few years ago. Just a bit more construction to do and then to start finishing.

Here are a couple more Macross links that could be helpfull:

(lots of good alternative schemes on this one)

Can anyone help? I am building a 1/170 Super Valkyrie VF-1S. I should have the preshading done tonight. My question is what is the overall color of the a/c? Is it white or grey?

Thanks in advance for the help.

The standard colors to the Super Valks are pretty boaring. The basic white, red, blue or tan color to the valk’s fuselage (depending on who the pilot was) and the standard trim and then the booster and armor attachments which tend to look dark grey or black, depending of how it looked on your TV. There have been many imaginative color schemes doen by people so I would advise to use the above links by trigger to get some ideas.

Here’s an image of the standard VF-1A scheme:

And here’s a custom one:
