So far, I’ve built it up and textured the pieces to look like cast iron. Plan on weathering with the hairspray technique that’s in fashion at the moment.
Thoughts and suggestions please!!

Did you use texture paint to get the rough surface? You could maybe sand it down a little. It looks a bit too bumpy, if you know what I mean.
What undercolor do you want to use w/ the hairspray trick?

Base colour is brown with the top colour planning on being Tamiya ‘Sky’ (a light green).
i have done the same technique but using a wide round brush used for craft painting, I think its called Tole painting, and Mr. Surfacer 500 for the cast technique. it will fil in with paint later but hold washes well.
Back in the day, and we are talking 1985 here, spring to be exact, I set forth to the hobby shop on my meager E-1 Private pay and layed down an entire $7 for this kit. I was thrilled with it but just could NOT justifiy paying upwards of thirty dollars for a model kit, hence my lack of a Nutrocker or Fliedermaus.
I still have this model and display it during our annual library displays.

It’s lookin’ good! I’ve seen cases where that hairspray technique didn’t turn out so well, but you seem to have done a good job w/ it. I think I’m gonna have to try it now.
The surface texture turned out nice too. I thought it might be a bit rough, but you seem to have nailed it.
how did you work around the vinyl joint parts, how did you get rid of the seams onem?
Awesome work! It sometimes amazes me how something as basic as replacing a couple of pipes/wiring with something less “static” looking really makes the details on a model leap out.

Thanks guys, glad you are liking this build so far.
I’ve got the seams off as best I can and I’ve fixed the limbs with CA glue so they wont move and risk chipping off the paint. Next time I plan on either resculpting the joints ormaking some small molds with sculpey and casting some new joints with epoxy putty (via a sort of squash mold).
Not the best way at the moment, but it seems to be working for me.
