I am working on a sherman and am curious, the loaders circular hatch has the .50 cal mount on it and it only shows it positioned one way on the plans. Did the hatch have the ability to spin like the weapons mounts on our HMMVWs or was it stationary? I have looked through all my reference pictures and just can’t tell.

I am pretty sure the circular split hatch could rotate like the HMMWV hatch.

Yes,that’s correct. The split hatch was mounted on bearings so the .50mount could be brought to bear according to what the crewman wanted. When the split hatch was on the commander’s station, it was the same thing.
