M41 Walker Bulldog and Sturmtiger...

I FINISHED A MODEL !!!

Might not sound like much…but in my house it was a miracle. I tried alot of new techniques(that is, new to me). Did my first run with dot filtering, also my first time using MIG pigments and I used bottle #2 of Rustall for the wash. I also had my first time doing “damage”. I drilled a hole, carved a gnarly hole with my knife, and gave it what felt like about 300 coats of wash, and then I played with the pigments…[}:)]

Also started a 1/35 Tamiya Sturmtiger. If any one has built one of these and there’s anything I need to know, please let me know. It has been a relatively easy build thus far. My only disappointment was that there is no aftermarket engine for this one. I gave the exterior of the hull a base coat of Panzer Dunkergelb, and hit the wheels with grey. Painted this morning, and started building tonight. Not bad for a couple of hours, like I said, it’s been relatively easy build so far.

A very courageous attempt…but whoaaa there.

First off, that’s a M41 Walker Bulldog Light Tank

It was developed from the T37 series of light tank design and were to replace the Chaffee following World War II.

!http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/4237/omgblinky3sm.gifThat upper return run of the tracks goes on TOP of those return (the three in the center) rollers … and tightly too as they are “LIVE” tracks. Here’s an example:!http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m41.jpgThe german vehicles have the “dead” tracks which have slack. !http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r211/goatrancher/Smileys/HangInThere.gif?t=1237522428Hope 'ya can fix it.

Ditto on those tracks…also, when making holes, try to find some pics of real shell hits. That one you’ve got there strikes me as a bit large-ish?

The Tamiya Sturmtiger would have a standard Tiger engine in it, as these beasts were simply built upon old Tiger I hulls. Just scare up an Italeri, Tamiya, or Verlinden Tiger engine, and you’ll be all set!

Good for you, trying new techniques! That’s the way you get better. It takes some courage, but the results can be impressive!

Thanks to both of you. The reason the tracks are so loose is the rear wheel was broken(that’s why the kit was given to me) I am going to incorporate it in some kind of diorama, just not sure what yet.(willing to take suggestions) As far as the M1A1 name goes…well, oops. There is now officially egg on my face. I did go overboard on the damage, but just 'cuz I’m having sooooo much fun with this new found weathering. Trust me, if you could only see my tail wagging…

Sounds like you’re having a great time. Study that pic and you should be able to get that track right the next time.

Doogs like wagging tails! [:D]

Doog, let me put it this way…If I knew my wife would’nt have me commited, I’d probably be in the driveway right now dot-filtering our car.

LOL!

Don’t forget to add pin washes after that to bring out the panel lines! [(-D]

Well, the openings in the sheet-metal exhaust covers are for the exhaust guards, which means the ones in your photo are upside down…

Use a bit of Testors liquid glue to loosen them up and work 'em off gently. The overflow glue stains won’t show through the (final) painted finish unless you start handling that area before it dries; that’s when you’ll mess up - panic at the glue overflow and attempts to wipe it off before it dries will result in a mess. After you get 'em off, let the glue dry thoroughly before attempting re-attachment.

If you just HAVE to mess with the glue overflow, wait until the afflicted area is thoroughly dry and work it over gently with some scotchbrite. You shouldn’t have to though.

Most importantly…Pay Attention.

Gotta love having fun! One thing you might want to alter is to repaint the suspension of the Sturmtiger. They would not have been painted dark grey but dark yellow like the rest of the vehicle. HOpe this helps

Congrats on completing your first! Some great advice provided in the above posts, I would also encourage you to slow down a little bit…you’ve got a lot of enthusiasm and are having a great time (nothing wrong with that!) but taking a little bit more time will help avoid problems. I now of course have this mental image of you out in your garage with a wide square paint brush putting streaks on your wife’s car! [(-D]

So your saying i should’nt weather the dog ??

LMAO…Thanks guys
