All,
My next kit is Tamiya’s M1A2 Abrams. I’m going to add the Eduard M1A2 PE set (it says it’s for Dragon’s kit, but I don’t think that’ll be a big deal) and a Barrel Depot barrel (I’ll practice on the kit’s barrel, but I have a knack for screwing up filing and blending the seam). I’ve been searching on various online stores, but I was wondering if anyone had recommendations on a few things:
-
Modern US heavy tow bar
-
Various chains of various sizes (.50 cal mount, fuel doors, etc.)
-
Clevises
-
Anything I might be missing for some good extra details
Thanks!
Hey,
I built the Tamiya M1A2 kit a couple of months ago, its a great kit. I added the Barrel Depot aftermarket barrel and also Legends TUSK set. The TUSK set from Legends is specific for either Tamiya and Dragon kits. The TUSK set has heavy tow bars and additional MG’s too. Both aftermarket accessories were great additions to the kit. I’d like to get the Voyager PE slat-armor set for my Abrams yet…
As a former M1 A1 and A2 tanker I’d skip the fuel cap chains. In 1/35 they would be very very small. As to the
.50 cal, and don’t forget the Loader’s M240, I’d say maybe look at model railroad or ship chains to use.
Hope this helps…
See ya

Trumpeter makes a US tow bar set that sells dirt cheap ($6) and comes with clevises. http://www.greatmodels.com/~smartcart/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=TSM6612
I’'ve been out of the loop for a couple weeks. Thanks for the replies. The towbar kit is exactly what I was looking for. Google and online scale model retailers don’t seem to work too well (for me at least)…
