M1A1-HA progress pics

Just completed this but still doing the base. Just want to share the pics.[:D]

Got some fit problems here but I am happy that I finished it.

Well, almost anyway.[:D]

P.S. Thanks to rongeorge for hosting my pics…[;)]

Nice! Dwight! I bought an r/c m1 and was thinking about tearing it down and re-doing it! Maybe in desert cammo?! You know, give it more realism. Mainly little touches. ( black on road wheels for rubber, gun metal on .50 and .30) How about a hint of a beard or dirt on the T.C.'s face? It’s 1/16th so it might not be too bad. Good looking “whispering death”! Keep it up!

Very nice Dwight. You’re inspiring me to start cranking out my Italeri M1A2. [:p]

Awesome! Looks like a keeper!!

Murray

Hi 13b20,

Thanks for the compliments. Also thank you for reminding me. I am actually going to repaint the skin of the three figures.
The paint turned powdery upon drying. I am still looking for an enamel flat flesh paint.

Hi Tigerman,

I think you should. I am already thinking of getting the M1A2 kit myself. Either Trumpeteer or Dragon. It feels good that you find it nice.
Thanks.

Hi Murray,

Thanks.

Dwight, nice build. I especially like the finish on the tank. One comment on the figures, the camo job you did on the uniforms is amazing!! Looks like you need to put a flat coat on them, and perhaps a few thin washes to highlight the wrinkles, but WOW!!! Ok, two comments…

Good job Dwight!

Good job!
What’s your plan for the base?

Edog: Thanks for the tip. I actually applied a thin wash already by I guess its not enough. After I repaint the skin I will apply a few more wash. And yes a flat coat for the figures and actually the decals still look a bit shiny.

Muzzleflash: Thanks. I was actually a bit ambitious at first. I planned to have a Bradley (Tamiya) alongside with the M1 and some more figures (modern marines by Dragon). I went back to the shop last night but the Bradley was gone (sob, sob, sob). So I just decided to scale down the dio with this M1 on the desert battle field with some supplies alongside it (jerry cans, fuel drums, crates, etc.) I don’t have the fuel drums and crates yet though.

Anyway, thanks for the tips guys. Beginners like me needs more of 'em.

Excellent stuff, Dwight!

Very very nice, Dwight! You sure didn’t let the fit problems stop you from making a fine model.
I really like the uniforms, too. On the figures, I might tone down the whites of the eyes, but that’s just me.

Good work!!

dwight:
waiting for the pix to load, but i’m guessing it’s gonna be in desert colors…[;)]
ah, yes, there it is. very very nice, indeed ! if ur a beginner, then i guess i’m neo-natal. i really like the black guy, he looks pretty intense and ready to bring it ! meanwhile, the dude in front of him looks like he’s daydreaming, or maybe trying to figure out what he’s doing there. and the camo is top notch !

Good work Dwight! I think everyone hit most of the improvements you could make but you did a great job!! Keep 'em coming [:D]

Eric

Very nice, very nice!

djmodels1999: Am happy that you liked the way it looked. Thanks.

frostygirl: Well, I told you, I like desert colors. (But don’t tell anybody that I am going to use standard NATO colors on my M1A2, ok?). I am glad that you like it. Hope to see your M1 soon.

J-hulk: I’ll try to tone that white color a bit. Do you think it would be better if I use a bluish color on the eyeball? You know, I am asian and the color of asian eyes is really dark brown. Thanks for the advice.

erush / Erock69 : Thanks

Actually, this is why I believe it is good to post pictures when the project is in progress. Other eyes (or experienced modeler’s eyes that is) have better chances of spotting things that need to be improved. And it is a good way to a better model. A good way to learn from others.

Thanks again guys. Anyway I have yet to find a new flat flesh paint (enamel) and some dio accessories so the work is back on shelf for the time being. I’ll be back on it probably by next week.

I too love the detail in the desert camo uniforms! This is a great example. How long did it take you to complete the figures? What worked good and bad with the camo?
Dmod

may I suggest adding a dull coat to the figures when completed… in this way you dont have to worry if they seem glossy as you paint.

Great looking Abrams, Dwight! Makes me want to break out the old Tamiya M1 and start gluing!

Dmodeler: I think I spent about 2 hours on the figures. Well, the only problems I had were to pick (and mix) the right colors to use and to apply a thin wash. The wash that I applied seemed to light and I have to apply some more. But this should be done with care…or else I may ruin the cmo job.

edog: Thanks for reminding me.

demono69: Thanks! I heard Tamiya M1 is a good kit with better fit.
