There is one made by an Australian company called Mouse House Enterprises. It goes for about $100.00 US. Here it is.
And the link to their site: http://www.mheaust.com.au/MHE/Resin/OZA/M198.htm
I have not built it, I’m too cheap to spend that much on it. I’ll keep hoping that it will be produced in plastic.
That is a very nice model, nicely detailed. Thanks for the reference. One of my life long goals is to build a 3 to 6 gun artilliary implacement diorama. Unfortunately I’m also too cheap to spend that much on a single model.
I’ve been looking all over for a kit of this for my USMC inventory, but $100 is much more than I’ll spend, and I’m a little leery of an all resin kit. I’ll echo everyone else and hope that someone makes a plastic kit of the M198. Obviously there’s an interest for one.
That may be the route to go. Now to find the time to search for some accurate plans for the beast. But I’ll keep my fingers crossed that someone, somewhere will make this kit in plastic, and 1/35th scale.
Built so far: 1/48 Cobra 1/48 Corsair 1/48 Hornet 1/48 Harrier 1/35 AAV7P 1/35 LVT
Have, still in box: 1/35 Huey 1/35 Cobra (x2) 1/48 CH-53 1/48 V-22 another 1/35 AAV7P 1/35 M935 (making a guntruck)
Have to buy: 1/48 CH-46 1/35 M1A1 1/35 LAV (gun version) 1/35 Humvee
Searching for: 1/35 M198 M997(convert into my data van)
I think that covers most of the current inventory, and there are a few WWII pieces that escape me right now. My goal is to build one of everything I’ve ridden in or is in the current inventory and most of the uniquely Marine vehicles that I can find.
Ooh-Rah! I started out as an 0311, got a little bit of time in just about everything, at least when we weren’t walking to the objective! Spent the better part of a year riding zodiacs around since we were boat company for the MEU. Made the move over to tactical data so now I ride a laptop and some routers and switches, but I remember my time in the grunts fondly (now). That’s why I’m trying to collect all of our “toys” to build.
i am an artillery mechanic stationed at 29 palms california. i too have been looking for an m198 model for a few years now. and i dont want to pay 100 bucks for a resin model. so i decided to to make my own from scratch 1/10 scale. check it out. IT OUT.
Artymechanic,
Welcome to the forums. A note, don’t type in all caps, it is seen as yelling on the forums. Also, your link doesn’t work, it says “Forbidden, You do not have permission to view…” You have to set the photos up so that you allow others to view them. Would love to see your M198.
Looks like you are going to have to wait a bit!
MiniArt Studio’s is supposed to be coming out with the M198 in 1/35.
WHEN??? your guess is as good as mine.
Well, they (the manufacturers) heard the cries for the Vigilante, so if we keep calling for an M198, maybe they’ll actually get one out on the shelves in plastic. Yeah, I’m a dreamer, but if there wasn’t a kit that I was “dying” to see made, what kind of modeler would I be?
I think it’s unanimus. We want our howitzers. The manufacturers will probably release a dozen new Tiger kits and a half dozen Shermans before a 1/35 M198 comes out.
artymech- welcome to the forums. Sorry about the rough luck being stationed at 29 stumps… I hate that place. However, I do remember a nice model collection in the base library.
Thanks, barrovian, I actually got one of the 997s from my dad for Christmas. Its on my “to-do” list. I’m going to scratch the interior to look like one of mine, with our data gear in it. One of these days…
