m109 a6 paladin paint scheme?

i am working on the 1/35 scale italeria m109a6 paladin and would like to paint it in the Operation Iraqi Freedom paint scheme. does anyone have suggestions as to what color and brand paint would be the most accurate

For an OIF vehicle, it will most likely be CARC Tan - the closest match is FS 33531, and is available in the following

Testors ModelMaster Sand #1706 (enamel)
Humbrol Light Stone 121 (enamel)
Gunze Aqueous acrylic “Yellow” H-313 (discontinued), Gunze Mr Color 313 (lacquer)
Vallejo Model Air: Sand 71075 (acrylic)

You may also see the M106A6 in NATO 3-tone camo

As Phil says, most likely sand, but could be 3-tone NATO camo. It depends on what unit the vehicle is from. For units out of Germany; 1st Infantry Division and 1st Armored Division, and a few FA BDEs out of Ft Sill, Oklahoma, they would still be NATO camo. All other units are in sand.

OK…a couple of acrylic adders

MM Acryl - 4720 - Sand FS33531

If you want to do ODS rather than OIF

Polyscale - 505366 - ODS Sand FS 33446

I think you have it all

Mike, Mike…You either need some more coffee or the rains up there are getting to you…

That is a good color for ODS, however, the M109A6 Paladin wasn’t fielded until about 1995 and was not used in ODS. For ODS, you would need an M109A2 or M109A3 howitzer.

Upon further review…and support of my brother and

Yes…ODS would be M109A2 or 3…as you get older you get a bad case of brain farts…thank God for coffee…or a little espresso…I know, my powder is damp!!

Thanks for the catch…FUBAR retraction!

MMMM, that looks really good… two lumps of sugar in mine.[:D]

Heh… War Story… When it was being kicked around that we were going to be re-equipping with Paladins to replace our Alpha-3s, I was hot to get into school and be the first kid on the block to chief one of them and made it known to the Smoke and Gunny… Smoke just laughed and said, “You’ll be taking over the Gunny’s job… Ain’t no way I’m turning you lose anywhere on a howitzer with a radio and a map or you’ll have your own war goin’ on the first day…”.

Sadly, I didn’t get the Gunny’s job OR a Paladin as it turned out… Wound up PSCing to an Engineer Battalion as their Bugs & Gas NCO…

In early 2004 at Camp Cooke / Taji, 1st Armored Division had sand color Paladins. When 1st Cavalry Division took over in the Summer, their were sand too.

Interesting item, we had a lot of Iraqi M109s on base that we gave them during the Iran-Iraq war. Taji was an Iraqi Army armor repair base, so there was hundreds of AFV there awaiting repair.
