M1074 PLS Conversion Complete

Amazing work.

Thanks Glenn. I am happy with it so far.

Looks great Gino, just needs a little dirt and mud in the floor to look like the real thing. [Y]

Thanks, yup a bit of weathering is in order.

I am building this truck as an artillery Bn supply vehicle. As such, the flatrack needs to be full of 155mm rounds. The flatrack holds 176 complete rounds (rounds, powder cans, and fuse cans) on 8-round pallets. As you can image, I need a bunch of ammo sets. Does anyone have any 155mm ammo and 8-round pallets they can spare? I’ll take all you have and have lots to trade or can pay for them. Let me know what you have.

Gino I’ll look around but maybe you could just make a mold and cast a bunch of rounds? Dunno if it helps, just throwing out ideas.

Thanks. I have considered that. The bigger issue is the wooden pallets for them. They are very thin and hard to cast. I think I may have sourced enough AFV Club sets at a good price though. I am keeping all options open.

I have all the ammo sets on their way to me, so no real progress yet. I am still waiting to paint this one. Weekends have been busy and with the early sunset, I don’t have the right light to do it in the evenings. Hopefully I will get to it (and the M983A1) soon. I am also waiting to get all the ammo sets in to fill up the flatrack. I have built a few wooden pallets for the propellant and fuze cans. I found some laser-cut wooden pallets that were very cheap on eBay by Shadow Hobby. They look great and were easy to build.

That’s some nice looking pallets. Are they the paper material? Looks like they’d be easier to get to look ‘right’ than the plastic.

They are actually very thin wood. The laser cutting is very nice too. They come out looking great.

Oh real wood, that’s amazing. I hadn’t seen anything like that besides ship decks. No wonder they look just like the real thing.

I finally have my workshop set up at the new house in FL and will be getting back to work on this one soon. Hopefully I will have some new pictures soon.

Cool to see you back on this one. Looking forward to the photos.

Looking great from what I can see, Gino. Damned photobucket… [:(]

Oh good, looking forward to more of this project.

I dug this one back out and have started working on it again. I have been making all the rounds for the cargo load on the flatrack. It will be carrying a load of 155mm artillery ammo. There are 144 complete rounds. This includes: 144 projectiles; 24 illumination (white), 24 smoke (lt green), and 96 High Explosive (dk green). 144 powders, and 144 fuzes.

Eack has all the requisite marking on them as well. The stenciling on the illum and smoke rounds and on the powder cans was all made by me using home decal paper. The HE stenciling comes with the AFV Club ammo sets.

Next up is assembling the 8-round pallets and the powder can pallets. More to come soon.

That’s quite a project there. Look forward to you completing it. Strikes me it would work well sitting on a mirror.

Hello Gino!

Good to see you working on that baby again! Gives me hope for my frozen projects… But the big move is still waiting for me… Good luck with your builds and have a nice day!

Thanks guys. Work continues.

You did a great job on the interior with all that detail. This vehicle reminds me of GlennH’s pictures of ordnance handing in the Vietnam War. Technology has sure improved efficiency.
