Here is the latest model I have been working on. Just finished it up. It is an M1064A3 120mm Mortar Carrier. I used the Tamiya M106A1 4.2" Mortar Carrier and the MR Models M1064A3 conversion set. The MR set is quite complete, but the directions are horrible. With just their directions alone, you will have much difficulty building it. The model represents a vehicle from the 1st Armoured Division in mid-'03.
Good job on the conversion. That looks like one big mortar! One question, what is that hanging on the side behind the three packs? A base for the mortar maybe?
Gino, looks pretty good bro, however, I am thinking it could use more shading and highlighting! Maybe it’s the lighting in the pictures as they’re kinda yellow/orange. The interior looks good
Thanks. The M1064A3 is the latest version and is in service in all active duty heavy units. It’s predecessors, the M106 series with a 4.2" mortar may still be in use with some Guard units, they look vary similar. M106A2 is pretty much the same externally, with the deletion of the external fuel tanks and a 4.2" mortar as opposed to the 120mm. Here is my M106A2 model that I did a while ago.
I know it’s been awhile since this build. This is my husbands “other home” as he sleeps in this trac probably more then our house. I was hoping to find a kit for Christmas but I can’t seem to find one and I see you pieced this all together. We are new to model builds, so this was supposed to be an easier project/surprise for him for Christmas. Haha. Do you happen to know any other kits for this tank? Or do you sell the ones that you complete?
Hi Ash and welcome to the site. Unfortunately, there is no out of the box kit of an M1064A3. It takes a Tamiya M106A1 kit and an M1064A3 conversion set by MR Modelbau out of Germant to build it. It was built for the TC of the vehicle in Iraqi Freedom, so I no longer have it.
Here is a link to the MR Modelbau M1064A3 conversion set.
