M10 Tank Destroyer

Hey guys it’s Zeke here and since my dad let me use his account I have been able to submit some photos of a recent build of mine. It’s Tamiya’s 1/48th scale M10 Tank destroyer. I’ts a wonderful kit that simple enough that my glacial speed of modeling can finish.I had posted some question a month ago about replacement tracks. I opted to do what I hate and strip the paint off them and retried. It worked out well. Please keep in mind when you post on here I’m only a teenager, so My work will be very neat as is how I like but won’t be very intricate. This was my first tank model. Comments and criticism welcome!

Your build does look very neat. Good job. I’ve been building tanks for a couple of years and I still get glue on places where it doesn’t belong. Did you paint it? Also, the road wheels have rubber tires on them. I use Poly Scale Grimy Black for my tires but flat black also works.I’m not a US tank expert, but I think the tracks are on backwards. All in all grreat build. Keep building nice a slow and you’ll have some great looking tanks.

To Answer your question Geist I did paint the model. I used Tamiyas XF-54 Kahki Drab. I think it’s now out of production but the ever vigilant local hobby shop helped me when I ran out. I also am aware of the fact that the road wheels have rubber on them. I found this out after the build.[#oops] Thanks for posting Geist.

Hey, I like it. Seems like you got the build part down well, all the seams are tight, no glue marks, etc… I would say you should bring the finishing up a level with a wash. Not for weathering, but just a simple wash will pop out those details really well. Love that 1/48 armor scale too.

That’s a very nice job, Zeke, I model in 1/35, and that looks really well made to me. Very neat as others have mentioned, no glue where it shouldn’t be, no gaps, you are technically very good at this.

If you want to do so, a wash would really make the details pop. I know it’s not really what you want to do: attack that neat paint job that you just succesfully put down. It’s not for every one. Do some searches on the forum, see what it may look like, and decide. I did a Sherman about 2 months ago, there are a bunch of photos of it when I had finished, it’s nto the best model but will give you an example of how washes accent the details. It’s not for everyone, and if you don’t like the effect, or just don’t want to try it, remember, it’s your model, your hobby, if you are having fun, you’re doing it right.

Anyway, nice work, keep it up.

Thanks Waikong and Citadelgrad, I really appreciate your posts and thank you for them. [:)]I agree with both of you a wash would have brought this model to a whole new level, but I wanted to see how a model would look without weathering.

I have finished Tamiya’s ancient but still very good 1/35th scale KV-2. I got it really cheap when it went out of production. That tank got some decent weathering on it. But for some reason when I airbrushed Gunze Sangyo Mud on the turret it came out flat not semigloss. I buffed it with a paper towel which helped some but it still looks different. I finished it two weeks after my M10 got finished. I plan to post pics soon.
