M10 nearing completion

Well here is where I am at so far. This is the AFV Club Early M10. I have added Archer decals Verlinden Sherman sandbags and tracks taken from a donor Sherman kit. Ive attempted a urban weathering scheme with pastels. Please any constructive critics are welcome. Still have a few thing to do before I call it done.

It looks good, but the detail just isn’t popping out at me. You gonna do a wash of some sort? Because that could really help make the detail stand out. By the way your sand bags are a bit shiny, are you gonna dull them down or give them more texture aka tissue paper?[?]

Yes to both. I still need to do a wash and I need to flat coat everything

Well, since that’s the case, it’s comin’ along just fine then. Can’t wait to see the finished pics.[tup]

I like it a lot, I want to build an M10. Your tools look very good, nice detail work there, but teh sandbags seem to be melting together, maybe some darker “sandbag” color to emphasize the shadows, then wash it to tone it down if it’s too stark.

I just started back up after 20 years, I was surprised how easy it is to mix up a bit darker paint to highlight creases and folds, give it a try.

Not a criticism, though, as I like your build.

[#ditto] Not sure of your sandbags. I can’t put my finger on it, but they sort of just look like melted plastic. Maybe a dark wash and a clear flat coat will make a difference. What are they made of? I think too if you defined the edges of each overlapping bag by scoring a definte demarcation line they might look better.

Not a bad effort so far though…[tup]

Boomer…

Good work. Something that struck me however is the height of your sandbags. As is, they obscure all the periscopes of the driver and asst driver. No ability to drive with a situation like that. Can you change it? Is that too much? You decide.

Good luck to you

I noticed the same thing when I installed them. I sanded and ground them down till, when looking directly head on that they were low enough. I cant really tell from the pic, maybe I need to look at them a little closer

Yes the sand bags still look toy like. I need to put my wash over the whole vehicle and try some shading and such on the bags. They are a Verlinden set that were actually meant for an M4A3 Sherman. I actually used Green putty to sculpt sand bags to fill in the bow machine gun slot as the M10 didnt have this. I will get more pics up when I get the washes done.
