Hi all, I read that m&m paint is going to be discontinued. Is this true, can anyone confirm this for positive? It seems really strange to me that such a good product would be discontinued. They have such a great selection of colors, especially military. It’s the major brand stocked at my local hobby store. They have not heard a thing about this. Hope not!! Ardvark Thanks
M&M paint? Not a brand I can say that I have ever heard of before. Model Master, Vallejo, Tamiya, Gunze, Humbrol, Revell, AK, Mission Models… those are current lines that I am familiar with.

If you refer to Model Master paints, if you believe the chatter, some of the range is to be discontinued. But even this has been debated ad nauseam, and no offical confirmation from what I have read has been confimed.

It is true that they are discontining some of theModel Master military colors, mostly the German WWII and the japanese colors, I talked to testers and my paint guy at my local HS. Have to go Acrylic for them.

Yes, it’s been confirmed that Testors is discontinuing the enamel Modelmaster II line (basically all of the international military colours, figure colours, etc). Here is the colour chart:
Approximately 130 colours.
There’s no official word on the rest of their enamel paints. I imagine it’s just a matter of time before the rest of their enamel paints gets discontinued as well.
They still have their automotive enamel colours and American FS colours, but that’s it for enamels.
I called them about 2 months ago and got put in touch with 1 of there paint engineers. he was surprised about it and when through hi pc and other coworkers and could not find any info stating any of testors or model master paints being discontinued. maybe his department missed the memo.
I certainly hope not. there paints are all I use. I’m a professional painter and there oil base paint is a premium product. I’d hate to see it go. the last several years here in CA. USA we have seen are best products pulled of the market and told the New latex is just as good. that simply is not true. but that’s California.

What I’d like to know is what or where “lack of support” assumption they’re hearing it from.
More than likely, they are using that as a term for sales. There is a lot of competition out there for the Model Master paint line.
I think it’s just the peanut ones that are being discontinued (probably due to complaints from those who have allergies) the regular paints will still be available.
My local Hobby Lobby has a new Testors Rack. Fewer of the old military colors, but newer non-military colors. So it seems like they are not dropping ALL their enamels.
I wonder, with so many military modelers switching to acrylics, if they felt enamels were not a good investment any more.

Just curious Don, can you recall any of the new non-military colours you saw? I’m just wondering if they are brand new colours introduced by Testors or just new colours that Hobby Lobby hasn’t carried before?
Not all… there are some like myself who still use enamels. Thankfully Humbrol has us covered.
I have predominatly gone to Acrylic paints due to ease of use, clean up and quick flash time. Enamel for me takes way too long to setup and requires a lot more care and is relegated to detail work only.
Acrylic cleanup is easy only if it has not dried in airbrush. Once it does, and it does fast, cleanup can be a real mess. Make sure you clean up immediately after using it.
Yes, after each and every session with laquer thinners. Strip down every couple of weeks for a full clean and wipe down. Spray a tinny bit of laquer through before each session and my AB’s are always ready to go.
They are as clean as the day I bought them.

I airbrush exclusively using acrylics. However, I don’t use only Model Master acrylics. I have Aeromaster, Tamiya, Pollyscale, Badger, Floquil RR colors and Mission Model acrylcs. Mission Model acrylics has expanded their color line even more iust recently and are getting to be quite popular these days. I have a few in my stash and plan on getting more colors in the future.
Give Mission Models acrylics a try. Doing so may change your outlook on acrylics.
