Who makes the best kit of the Priest? I remember seeing them in parades when I was a kid and thought I would make one to add to the short list of armor that I build.
At this point I build only the ones I drove in the A.F. which makes it a very short list of two.
In 1/35, Italeri makes a good model of a late production M7. Academy/Airfix and Dragon make the early and mid production types. The Dragon kits are supposed to be a bit better.
I remember Pvt Mutt,Tony did a build log some time ago of the Dragon kit,I believe the kit was a little fiddley, but it came out very nice.I have it but it’s been on the shelf,it does come with the infamous Dragon DS Tracks, Mine are still okay in the bag
Word to the wise, the Italeri kit is from the late 70s and uses the gun from the even older Peerless Max 105 mm kit.
The Academy kit is based off of the M3 Lee and an earlier version. The Italeri kit was based off of a later M4 Sherman chassis.
The Dragon kits are all based off of the earlier M3 chassis as well. An easy way to identify is the three piece transmission cover vs the one piece of the M4.
I’d look the the Dragon smart kit for an easier build.
Does anyone make a decent set of tracks for the M-7?
I will assume that there are detail sets for the ammo, and other things out there from maybe Eduard or somebody else, but more than likely nothing for the main gun as far as detailing or even a replacement.
They use the same tracks as the M3 Lee/Grant and pre E8 M4 Sherman’s. There are tons of aftermarket Sherman tracks on the market. Decide which type you prefer and look for those… T48, T50, T41, T54, T62…
