looking for Ron Poniatowski’s workbench review of M18 hellcat by academy 1997 cant seem to find it or not doing the search correctly. could use some help.
Here’s the link (I think):
http://www.finescale.com/fsm/default.aspx?c=a&id=955
But you have to be a subscriber to access it.
Here’s another link on the same kit:

Hope this helps!
I searched online. The review for the AFV club kit is available online but not the academy kit. Probably have to go to another source. Like those guys downunder or over on armorama.
Thanks for the info. but still could not access what i wanted. think i will order oct. 1997 backorder. since i did not start with fsw untill 2004 that old issue may have some neat stuff in it.
What kind of info are you looking for on it? I am building it for a GB right now, and doing a review on it at the same time. So far I have the interior together(except for the seats) and installed and painted into the lower hull, and I have the upper and lower hulls glued together. After painting the seats a different color I will be installing them. I can tell you this so far, the parts have decently crisp engraving and detail, the interior fits together wonderfully, the lower hull needs to be spread a little at the top to allow the interior sections to slip down in. It’s a very snug fit, with no margin for error so no paining before you put it in. The upper and lower hulls together don’t fit very well. You have to glue them in sections as a time as you would for a warped hull. There are some tiny gaps here and there that are easy to fill. That is what I have so far. I’ll be doing more work on it tomorrow(sunday) such as painting and installing the seats, and attaching misc stuff to the hull and then hopefully painting it, and getting the turrest at least started.
Thats the info i was looking for. i was having the same problem. about ready to start on the support rollers now. what do you use to fill the gaps?I only one small gap on front of hull that i filled using super glue .
Not sure what I am going to use at this moment. I just might use super glue and baking soda. I may use squadrom white, or even milliput. For these small gaps though probably the superglue and baking soda. I need to get off my butt and start working on it again. LOL. I do wanna get this thing done. Still trying to think how I want to paint it. I wish there was a paint scheme other then the standard green. If there is Ihaven’t found it yet.
Terry Ashley reviewed it on PMMS here :

Not really. The OP asked about the Academy kit. Different than the AFV Club kit
Oops, my bad, [:I] I didn’t read ‘original’ post closely enough!
PMMS have Academy SUPER Helcat reviewed, covering the hull of the M18, & M36 Jackson Turret:

Terry also reviews Verlinden’s 2004 Interior & Exterior sets here:

IPMS Stockholm have a review by Arreborn/Waligorski:

FYI: Barbarossabooks list as below, Steelmasters 40, but I haven’t read it or seen it so can’t vouch for the article mentioned…

As an aside, do magazine reviews seem to concentrate in cramming in as much AM stuff, & fewer articles on scratch-building?
Magazines can only publish what folks are willing to write up. The last real in depth scratchbuild article I recall was by Nick Cortese in Boresight (A-20 Soviet Medium tank, scratch completely). They are few and far between, to be frank.
I’m going to be posting my review to armorama since they accept unsolicited reviews.
