hello recently purchased the italeri paladin in 1/35 does anyone know of impending update kits, say verlinden or eduard or something like it ? I’d like to do it up in desert storm or iraqi freedom colors and specs. I’m new into modelling and any info is much appreciated.
Welcome to the forum
I found this @ www.rollmodels.com (under Eduard)
EU35319 M109A6 Paladin (Ita) $17.25
Hope that helps a little
For Paladin specific sets, the Eduard one is the only one out there. There are some other sets by by CMK and another company, can’'t remember who off the top of my head though. I believe it is a company called KMC. They have a turret and hull interior set for the M109A2 that you could use as a base (with a lot of work) for an M109A6 interior.
CMK does an engine set that is pretty nice: http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/cmk/cmk3001.htm
I currently working on the same project. For approximately $40.00 each I purchased both the CMK and Trakz M109A2 resin kits. They are both OOP, I was lucky and found them at the April AMPS show.
Beyond these enhancements, you may consider purchasing the AFV/Skybow individual tracks. I believe that they are a significant improvement over the kit tracks.
anyone one know KMC’s site?
Found a list of a complete interior, exterior, engine, etc. review with pics. Apparently, the former KMC products are availabe through Warriors, a.k.a Verlinden.

how much is this stuff? looks good, maybe i’ll dig out the kit if the prices aren’t through the roof
I think they go for about $40-$50 each. Remember though, these are not for the M109A6 Paladin. They are for the earlier M109A2 version. You can use them as a base for the M109A6, but the interiors are very different between the two and would require a bunch of conversion and scratchbuilding to get an A6 interior.
“…would require a bunch of conversion and scratchbuilding to get an A6 interior”
as in how much conversion? like major remodellling or just removing some stuff and adding a few things here and there. i want to have one from OIF
A Paladin interior is light years differant than an M109A2 interior. The ammo storage racks, hydraulics, fire control computer in Paladin, seating for crew, gun drive system, etc, etc. Pretty much a major rework and scratch build job. You would need good referances as well. Would be better to leave it closed up if you want it totally accurate. If you don’t care, most people will have no idea that it is an M109A2 interior in an M109A6.
you think i could pass up an A2 interior with a few minor things reworked (the really visible things), and do good in a show?
any ideas where i could get this stuff, i searched on the web, but nothing came up, just the PMM site’s reviews
Since most show judges have little to no clue what modern equipment really looks like, especially an interior, probably.
No idea, I have just seen it on the web as well. Might try Verlinden, they carry the Warriors line. I have seen the CMK engine at Great Models Webstore, http://www.greatmodels.com
Hey guys,
I noticed your thread regarding the M109A6 and thought I’d interject my thoughts on the matter. I mastered the original M109 turret interior for what was then KMC, but later the molds were purchased by VLS (not Verlinden Productions). Awhile later I completed the M109 project with a set for the Lower Hull. Anyways, my suggestion is to use the lower hull set as I can’t think of any significant differences between the Paladin interior hull and earlier generation 109s. But I would advise against using the turret interior as the changes found there are quite profound. Being a more highly-technical weapons platform, the Paladin has tons more electronics not to mention the rear ammo stowage found in the 109A2 series is radically different in the Paladin … the A6 has a completely redesigned turret to accomadate those modifications.
If there is enought interest perhaps a new Paladin turret interior could be in the works …?
Thanks,
Mike Kirchoff
There is plenty of interest. I would get one. You could even do a complete interior set. Would save me the trouble of scratching one or trying to convert the turret from the older set. It would be much welcomed. I would also be more than happy to do a build-review of the sets for you when they are ready.
[#ditto] heh heh saves me all the work =] sounds good to me – either the new turret interior, or the whole set, if it doesn’t cost a fortune…hey, maybe one of 'em buy on, get the other one free deals…whatever…
i didn’t find the CMK engine, but i did find the Lower Fighting Compartment…guess that’s pretty good also =]
does anyone carry an update set for the tracks and running gear of the current M109A6’s in Iraq? i heard that the running gear and tracks in the Italeri kit were a bit undersized.
Running gear is correct, tracks are mostly correct. The M109A6 track pads look a little different than the older M109 series tracks. The differance is not really noticable in 1/35 scale though. The Italeri tracks are just a pain to work with since they are a very hard vinyl and are also about 2 links too long. AFV Club (ex-Skybow) make a set of individual link plastic track that can be used to swap them out with and the look really good.
The AFV set also comes with the spare links, with hold downs for the front hull of the Paladin that Italeri left off. There are 4 on the hull from the factory, all Paladins have them or at least their attachment points showing.
You can see the spare track pads on the front, right hull in the below pic.

cool =]
here’s some more M109 stuff, and an M109A6 set from Eduard!!! =]
