So i am about to start working on the lusitania in 1/350 scale, and want to paint her as she likely would have looked the day she sank, with black/ gray funnels.
Now im wondering what they actually looked like, were they pitch black, or more dark gray?
Also she seemed to have a gold or tan stripe, what color was this stripe?
and are there any other noticable differences from how she looked normaly?
While I don’t know anything about the ship, on a small scale model dark gray would look a lot better than pure black, plus you could use black wash to do some shading. Tan or something like that could work better than gold, for a worn, weathered look.
Hope it helps, good luck with your build and have a nice day
I woild paint her Semi-Gloss black with a drop or two of white in it . She’s to small for straight black .The grey on the funnels the same . Remember the darker the paint , the smaller the model will look .
thanks, i used straight matt black on my 1/350 titanic, which works really well, dont really like the effect of semi gloss on the hull, so ill do the same on lusitania’s hull, i think ill go for satin black with a drop of white for the funnels, try a few mixes.
I just posted up some color pictures of the Lusitania and her funnels where a orange/red color 3/4 up the way up with the last 1/4 black to the top. This would fit with the colors of the Cunard line.
