here is the first bit of progress on the first of my WWII desert campain dio’s. I have got the truck more or less built, it needs paint and details and I painted the goundwork this morning with my new airbrush.
I have some verlinden and hornet figures for this one and I hope to start work on them soon, after some work on other workbench projects(aircraft). Any comments goods or bad would be welcome, as I’m still new to this side of modelling.
Thanks '60, I bought verlindens “British desert raiders” and Hornets “LRDP soldier” They are suitably scruffy and hairy so hopefully this dio will be half decent when its done. Darren.
Cheers Joe! I must be doing something right:) I made a little more progress today, started the add on details and sprayed the truck. I will start the figures tomorrow and route through my spares box for more stowage. Thanks for looking, Darren.
Thanks guys, I am in the process of painting various accessories for the truck and have left the resin figures to soak in soapy water for a while before I start working on them. I have a friend who is giving a few odds and ends from his spares box to go on the truck too, he’s an avid armour builder and is enjoying seeing this wing-thingy builder struggle with the details:) Hopefully, I’ll have more to show by tonight if the other projects on my workbench don’t distract me! Darren.
Thanks! To make the hill I started on the wooden base with a rough-cut piece of rockfoam (its an insulation foam used in the building trade) I cut a slope angle on the foam then glued it to the base. Next, I covered the whole thing in PVA then added wet kitchen paper on top to soften the edges of the foam. This gives the curves and bumps their shape. Finally one big wet sheet of kitchen towel over the whole thing, covered in PVA and country scenics grain. After that I just added paint. Well thats how I did it, hope my waffling helps! Darren.
[:)]Thanks for your kind words fellas, as promised here are some pics of my “progress” I have nearly finished the truck and I have started work on the figures. The Verlinden and Hornet figures are excellent, my only hope is that my poor figure painting skills can do them justice!
I will also use the OOB figures that came with the truck too. The driver figure is well posed, but the gunner was not suitable for the scene that I want to create, so I have (don’t laugh!) modified his pose to look like he is using the truck radio…well its the best I could do!!
Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy the update and tell me what you think.
Many thanks '60! Its funny but I am enjoying this project more than my usual aircraft models, I think I’ll be doing more of these in the future as they are fun projects. Now, who can give me some lessons in figure painting… I startred the figures last night and they don’t look like the picture on the box to say the least…!! Darren.
