I prefer both 1/72 for my armor and aircraft, but I’m finding it very difficult to find manufactured diorama elements out there.
I use all the standard scratch building solutions for terrain and kit conversions (I’ve given up on the 1/72 conversion market) - but I would like to find more buildings, accessories, rubble and non-HOO-RAH figures (those not charging a machine gun nest).
Specifically -
Luftwaffe Crews and Support
German and US Tank Crewmen
German and US Support Figures (both armor and AAF)
Civilian Figures
Buildings and Rubble Material
Accessory Materials
Etc.
You get the idea.
If anyone has any links or catalog resources they could provide me, I would be forever grateful.
Thanks.
I second that… Ive been looking myself and cant seem to find any. I know warriors makes a resin Tiger crew in 1/72 scale. They look pretty good. But as far as other figures, well, “HOO-RAH” is all I can come up with too…
Airfix made several sets of 1/72 scale figure sets that can be readily used or adapted. Heller reintroduced them several years ago. Preiser has a whole cataloge of figures that will lend themselves to your needs. Czechmaster also has 1/72 scale figure sets.
There is a bunch of stuff available, it is just a little harder to find.
ESCI recently released a set with telephone pole, hedgehogs, signs, etc
HO scale railroad stuff can be used, especially some of the buildings.
Preiser was already mentioned but they have great figures in injection plastic.
Also, try out some of the small scale websites. My favorite is On The Way http://www.ontheway.us/default.htm
He has links to just about all of the companies producing figures, decals, accessories, etc and links to several other sites for small scale builders.
another interesting site is http://www.72scale.com/menu.htm
It is a census of 72nd scale kits (planes, tanks, figures, ships, buildings, accessories, etc) It gives the company names and his links page is HUGE[tup]
Good luck on your endeavor.
Scale Model Accessories have started a new range of figures, equipment and vehicles for 1/72 aircraft dioramas
Here’s a link to their website, but it’s likely to go out very soon as they have a brand new website coming up soon (with another host). The new website will include more info on yet more airfield sets for the USAAF, US Navy and RAF.
I know an absolutely great company in Belgum. It’s tracks in troops and has a butt-load of everything you will ever need. They have literally everything you will need. I am not kidding. Thousands of 1/72 and 1/76 scale figures. [8D] http://www.tracks-n-troops.com/1-72%20Armor.htm
Another good place is www.milicast.com
they specialize in 1/76 scale armor [8D]
For building and general, ie non-military stuff, try your local model railway store.
Faller, Piko etc make loads of kits in ‘HO’, which is close enough to 1/72 as makes little difference. The ranges are huge and cover everything from urban to countryside. Also included is stuff live cobble paving, street furniture, ie lights & signs, as well as civilians to populate the scene with.
