Looking for Tamiya modeling putty usage tips.

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some useful tips from anyone that has used the modeling putty from Tamiya.

Does it adhere itself to styrene of does it still need to be glued on after it has hardened?

Cheers,

Thom

I use the Tamiya basic putty, which is my favorite. It will adhere very well to the plastic itself. I usually apply it to the area with an artist paint spatula. Allow it to dry overnight before sanding. You can mix a small amount of fingernail polish remover to the putty to thin it. The acetone in the remover is what thins it. After you place it on the model, take a q-tip dipped in the remover and lightly rub the putty down. This will flatten and smooth the putty over the area. Keep in mind, this putty will shrink over time. So, you may have to do a second or possibly a third application for good coverage. Hope this helps…

Easy answer, Throw it out the window and get some Apoxie Sculpt.

No fumes, no shrinking, you can smooth it out incredibly smooth using just water, and it sands down smooth as glass.

Andy and Grifter,

Thanks for your comments, I think I might get some of the Apoxie Sculpt and try it out.

Cheers,

Thom
