So one of my favorite navy aircraft is the S-3B Viking. Over the past few months i have searched and can not find a 1/48 or 1/32 scale kit of the Viking. Does any company produce this aircraft? As it has recently been retired i can imagine that if there are kits out there that they will soon become very hard to find.
(I have found 1/72nd scale kits of the S-3A. Not the scale i’m looking for alas. Also i’m not sure of any external diffrences in the A vs. B model.)
Thanks
Joe
Doubt there’s any injection-molded kits in 1/48th, but you might expand your search to vacuform-kits with better luck…
Italeri markets the old ESCI kit in 1/48th- just picked one up a couple of months ago from my LHS. There are also some aftermarket items out there- Squadron has a cockpit available. I have seen some pictures of built-up kits that look nice. Mine’s in the “build soon” pile. Good hunting.
I stand corrected…
I gotta quit readin’ Jet threads…[:D]

The 1/48 scale kit shows up on Ebay all the time. This kit has been marketed by ESCI, AMt/ERTL and now Italeri. Mostly same plastic except some have a dark tinted canopy and some don’t. I know the ESCI kit I have the canopy is so dark you can hardly see through it, the Ertl ES-3A kit if I remember is clear.

The AMT/ERTL release of the ES-3A in 1/48 has a dark tinted canopy. Another one in my stash [:-,] It really does look like a very nice kit in the box. It looks like you can build a straight S-3A or S-3B from parts in the kit in addition to the ES-3A variant.
Goffey Models makes an awesome resin cockpit set that includes the two rear crew stations and the entrance steps. They also make a great weapons & landing gear bay set. Both are kinda pricey though. I piced up the cockpit for around $45 and was very happy.
