The F-4 Euro 1 Scheme is the old SEA scheme but warp around (Mirror image of the top on the bottom) and instead of the Dark Tan FS 30219 it’s Euro 1 Gray FS 36081, and Dark Green FS 34079 is Euro 1 Green FS 34092, It’s pretty simple and it’ll look great on that F-4 you are doing.
Well, now that is a cool pseudo…72 Cuda, and an Awesome car!! (Qwikduster was my pseudo in my drag car life).
I’ll run with the SEA version with the substitute numbers you gave me. I believe I can probably find the SEA version on the net somewhere to get the correct pattern, I’m just getting back into this after wayyyyy too many years. Your post helps a BUNCH!!
It will most likely end up an F-4E, as I’m really combining a few different variants on this model-- it is originally an F-4F kit (German). I bought the decal set for the 52nd TFW Spangdahlem F-4G version (euro paint scheme phantoms), but I would like to convert that to the 170thTFS/183rd Illinois ANG where they flew F-4E’s…I am upgrading the cockpit with the Avionix/Combat Series kit, and the True Detail wheel set as suggested by berny13.
If you have any more suggestions on what I am trying to do, or a better way to do it, please let me know!!
I hate to stir the pot, but I painted Phantoms back in the mid-80s, while serving with the 67th TRW, 67 EMS, Bergstrom AFB TX, and the Euro 1 we were painting, was not a mirror image of the top, and the 34079 Dk Green stayed the same. We only changed the Tan 30219 to 36081.
We constantly were painting our fleet of over 80 Phantoms, year-round, and it got to the point, we had the scheme memorized, with no need to refer back to the T.O.
Actually, there were two EURO schemes, EURO 1 and EURO 2. EURO 1 was identical to SEA Wrap Around 2 with the gray being FS 36118 in place of the FS 30219 tan. The EURO 2 was identical to SEA Wrap Around 1 with the gray being FS 36081 in place of the FS 30219 tan. FS 34079 and FS 34102 was constant on all SEA, SEA Wrap Around and EURO paint schemes. I still have my copy of T.O. 1-1-4 which shows both schemes of Wrap Around and EURO.
EURO 2 became the basic scheme due to a shortage of FS 36118. It seems the B-52 and C-141 had a higher priority for use of that color.
Great help on this!!! I was searching every crack and crevice…you guys are AWESOME, and really came through!!!
I will go with the Euro 2 version with the gray FS 36081 and use the paint scheme supplied in the above post by mkhoot, and also suppied by berny13 in my other post.
I am ordering my stuff today, thanks to all of you guys, I can finally get this model of the ground!!
