Thinking about building a Vietnam-era Iroquois and wanted recommendations for good 1/48 scale kits. I’m open to all variants.
Hello!
It’d probably be the Italeri Huey (205). It’s not a bad kit, but needs a lot of work to add some detail and fill the seams between the parts. There’s also the Revell/Monogram UH-1B/C - this one need s even more work, because you can’t build a “straight” B nor C out of the box - what you get is some sort of hybrid in between B or C. So those were the old kits. I believe there’s also a HobbyBoss 1/48 Huey, but I’m not too sure, 1/48 is nor really my scale. But I have built the Italeri Huey for my brother as a gift, and that was a lot of work, but good fun, too. Anyhow - please remember to cut out the “hell hole” on the hull bottom - no model of the Huey shows this prominent feature OOB! Hope it helps - good luck with your build and have a nice day

Thanks - good to know about the hell hole!
I’d avoid the old Monogram UH-1B Hog that was also released by Revell with different decals. Basically, if it comes with the nose mounted ball gun and a short cabin airframe, it’s the old monogram kit.
Hobby Boss’s Huey is a mixed bag because it was designed to be easy assembly. I’ve read in several places that it will not sit without some weight added towards the nose or a clear rod to prop up the tail. It is a UH-1C.
The Italeri one, and I think Revell of Germany also releases it, used to be the best UH-1D. The Esci/AMT/Ertl one is not as good. For whatever reason, the Italeri UH-1D is hard to find, but they also released it as the AB-205. Same kit, different decals. The one kit called the best is the Italeri/Heller UH-1N, but is a later version (also called AB-212)
Another vote for the Italeri “D”!
The only thing Huey enthusitist would notice on the Italeria UH-1D would be the 212 main and tail rotor blades. They are wider than the D.
I sugest if you want to make an almost acurate 1/48 huey use both the Italeri and esci hueys Kitbash them and you will get a cool huey, not perfect but kind off…
I just finished this one using both and scratching things
