I posted this at another site and got relatively little input so I thought I’d try here.
I’d like to build a model in either 1/24 or 1/25 of a late model pickup truck. Make or model doesn’t matter, just a generic pickup truck you’d see on the road or in a Walmart/mall/employee parking lot. The closest thing I have to one is a Chevy SSR and that’s not what I’m looking for. I guess late 1990s through today, preferably a stock, garden variety truck as opposed to a suped up truck or monster truck.
I typed in pickup in the eBay search field and ended up with about a dozen pages of models. Hoping somebody here knows a decent kit that won’t cost me an arm and a leg or have me chasing after some hard-to-find vintage kit. I did find several potential candidates that will run me less than $20 delivered.
I’d like one with an engine, but that’s not a deal breaker. I’d like it to be a decent kit that doesn’t require a lot of hacking to build, but I’ll take what I can get. I prefer the non-step side bed (fleet side?).
I’m hoping a car guy will chime in and say “avoid this kit” or “this other kit is the best.”
Might hit Hobby Lobby or Michael’s and see if they have something I can use that 40% off coupon on. I did check the Revell.com site so I have some idea of what they may carry.
Thanks for any help.
How about a 88-91 Chevy Silverado from MPC or AMT? They are a fleet side bed and cheap. I think I have a few.
For the 1990’s and later models in 1/25, try the Revell pickups for build fit.

Thanks for the input. I just opened up my Squadron flyer and they have both the Revell '97 Ford F-150 and '99 Ford F-150 on sale for $9.99 a piece.
Ten bucks a pop are good prices
Yes, and the nice thing is that it is under their $19.99 limit so shipping will only be $4.95 for either or both. I’m doing some online research to see which one is preferable. I’d probably order some armor PE to round up the amount as opposed to buying both.
Thanks Greg, very helpful information.
I have more than one SILVERADO (the late 90s kit ) if you don’t settle on anything, just contact me through this forum and we’ll do something . I must add they are all gently started .You know , lightly painted interiors and maybe the engine halves glued together . It’s a long story so I won’t go there . Tanker-builder
Thanks for the offer. I watched a few trucks on eBay go above the $14.95 it would cost me to buy the Ford truck at Squadron. Don’t want to spend more on a second hand kit that I can get for less than $15 delivered brand new.
I ended up buying the '97 Ford XLT for $9.99 minus a 20% discount Squadron was running during Memorial Day weekend. Basically, $8 for the truck kit plus some other kits. My total 20% off discount for this order was more than I paid for the truck kit.
With the prices of new kits these days, that’s a score !
