As a kid in the 60’s, I built a 1/32 P-40 Flying Tiger made by Revell. I’d like to build it again, only I can’t find it anywhere. I’ve been scouring eBay and actually did find one, but it was missing too many parts to be of any value. All of the hobby sites I’ve checked only carry it in 1/48.
Hey guys;
I heard Trumpeteer is going to release a P-40B 1/32 scale FT marked kit, if they do then 9 times out of 10 Revellogram will counter it with theirs, and also a few years back there was a really nice 1/32 scale P-40B released but it’s now out of production, but the best place is the on line auctions or try to contact one of those hobby shops that sell out of production kits, but I’ve found EvilBay is the best out there unfortunatily you’ll maybe waiting a while

I’ve built this kit a couple of times, once when still in grade school I think and again some years back. Don’t know about the kit but I have the original decals from the last one I built. They are for a #7 wtih the sharkmouth and eyes but the national markings are stars in a circle so must be for aircraft after AVG was disbanded. There is also an emblem with a flying or leaping tiger bursting through a circle with Chinese star, and he has a Japanese flag in his claws and is wearing an Uncle Sam tophat. I’m sure it would look good on a model.
I also have whats left of Super Scale’s #32-98 sheet. I used to mark my last P-40E.
I used the national markings but the aircraft markings for Scatter Brain and Dragon Flight are still there if anybody was interested. I’m not likely to be using them so if someone wants them let me know.
Do you remember which company put out that 1/32 P-40 ?
Bob,
Do you have any spare parts besides the decals ? The ebay guy said his kit was missing (amoung other things) the prop hub and 3 of the 4 canopy panels.
hey Oz:
I still have a 1970’s flying tiger in my bedroom, Revell. Sitll looks great! But I whish I could find replacement decals for the AVG.
Sqaudron has them sometimes but they disappear so fast.
I asked this same question back in June. Itfahey told me to check Ebay also. In the last three weeks I’ve bid on about 4 - 1/32 scale kits lost all but the last ,and its the one I wanted. Rober Scott’s P40-E. God is My CoPilot author. Revell Monogram from 1997. So they are out there. Just keep watching. I’m sure we’ll bid against each other!!
Another place I found is Craftworks.com, but they are pretty pricey. 100bucks a kit.
Ted, Craftworks is the place, it’s big and its bad(good). Yea its expensive but the options for markings cant be beat. The detail rawks. If you gotta have one their p-40c is it. I couldnt be happier with my maachi mc205 and la-5. Now if they’d just do a buffalo and a deweotine 520, my collection would be complete.
Ted, I did look through my spare parts boxes, couldn’t locate anything that was remotely 1/32 P-40 sorry. Think I used all the parts building the kit and chopped up the sprue for stretching.
The Revellogram P-40E (1/32) is a bit of a bear. You’re going to have to fill a gap at the wing root (both sides) and thencarefully sand to get the wings to fit tight and centered. the removable cowl panels also are a bad fit. I know Eduard makes some PE for this kit. There are also a lot of rivets that, IMO, need to be sanded off.
I just started building my 1/32 P-40E yesterday! I found mine at a local shop here in Houston a few months ago and couldn’t resist it when I saw it. There’s just something about the Warhawk that no other WWII had!
Hey oz. if you find one, look for Mike Ashey’s book Building and Detailing scale model aircraft. It deal specifically with that kit (the Revell one) and shows you how to counter all of it’s flaws and make a show stopper. Another thing, my great uncle, a flying tiger, said that they always spit polished the planes between missions. Remember that when you weather it. He told me not to over weather mine for that reason.
Hi Ted
i may have what your looking for as i have 2 p-40,s one still in box but not made up yet also one from my nephew who threw his together and which ive actually managed to take down to give to friend but not given yet as think front windscreen missing from it both are in 1/32 scale as i also do 1/24 scale as well. If anyone knows how to get ahold of OZ let him know about the other kit I found for him. Have him drop me a line or it sounds like Sean might have a deal for him…
Gee, thank you all for the great responses, offers and information links. But, I just found one on eBay. The original 1967 kit I built as a kid, in pristine condition.
rossjr - Thanks very much for your offer. It was very kind of you. [:D]
Sean - Thanks for your offer as well.
pavlvsmax - Thanks for the info on Mike Ashey. I was hoping he wrote something on warbird modeling. I’ve read two of Mike’s books on building ships (my other interest) He’s great and I’m sure it’ll be of great help.
scooter - Thanks for the info links. I’ll be sure to check them out.
Everyone else, thanks again for your help. I’m going to make her this Winter’s project. I’ll post some photos when I’m done.
