Was going to be away for just over a week to visit my wife’s Grandfather who recently had a stroke but he was worse so I am staying until his daughter (my Mother in law) can arrive to look after him.
Found this nice internet cafe today for my FSM forum fix, but boy am I missing home.
The other day I went to what is considered ‘the LHS’ in Woollongong (about 20 mins away) and was shocked by the armour selection on offer - just 4 kits all 1/35th scale. 2 were the same Academy IDF M113 Fitter at $60 AUD ($45 USD), and the Academy M36 Jackson and the DML Panther Ausf A early both at $80 AUD($60 USD). Way over priced even for Oz.
Now for accessories you have a good selection of Tamiya and Humbrol paints, but don’t expect any glue other than Revel in the tube. Paint thinner, brushes or exacto knives and blades are non-existant. If you want those you need to go to the Games Workshop (Warhammer guys) down the road.
So, the next time I want to complaign about the armour selection at my LHS, I’d better shut up and think of the poor guys here who don’t know what they are missing. Catch you all soon.
Sorry to hear about both dilemmas, keep a stiff upper lip and all that.
Dont feel to bad Patbat Canberra is in the same boat an it just a tad bigger in population than Woollongong.
[:D]hi guys i was in Aucland for 10 years i had the same prblem, until i came back to canada.
gdarwin. have a good day[:D]
Think I know the shop you are talking about petbat, I’ve found similar shops in other areas of Australia as I’ve moved around with the RAAF.
jimg, From what I’ve heard lately Canberras improving, at least you have a selection of shops in the area, well there was when I was based there a couple of years ago.
Sorry to hear things were a little worse than expected. Have a safe trip home when you finally head off.
Don’t feel too bad about the hobby store! I grew up in country SA, and I would have considered a place like that a goldmine!
Safe travels,
Matt
Woollongong, what a cool name though! All we have around here are Baraboo and Waunakee… nowhere near as fun to say as Woollongong!
The closest hobby shop for me is 40 miles and it’s not very good either, so I order a lot off of the internet and from catalogs.
Hope your wife’s grandfather gets better!
Ron
Lucky my LHS is local and has a good selection!
Ron, Wollongong is a derivative of the Australian Aboriginal language. If you think that is a cool name, you should look over some other Aussie names.
You guys have Walla Walla, we have a Wagga Wagga.
Then there’s
Wangaratta
Tittybong
Humpty Doo
Wooloomooloo ( “woola-ma-loo”)
Coonabarabran
Oodnadatta
Burrumbuttock
Lake Cadibarrawirracanna
Just to name a few of the ‘cleaner’ one’s that can be posted.
