I’ve noticed we have quite a variety so, for all of those who do not use their name (though you guys can play too, of course), how or where did you pick up your screen name?
Being a former Navy diver, mine should be fairly obvious, but I’ve had several other call sign in the past. Some of you guys seem to have pretty special handles. So, what’s the haps?
Mine came from when I started an auto body shop. There was a Velvet Hammer in another city. Called mine Goldhammer, thinking people would think gold standard of work.
Still use it, because of my gold mining activities.

My wife helped me pick it because when I joined this site after a long time just being a lurker I had to pick a name. I had a lot tank models laying about, so that was it. I realy dislike nick names.
From my cowboying days I was a brushpopper or ‘outrider’, which became my callsign for a lot of things during my time in the military. Now, of course , because of the way things are around military types, that occasionally got changed to ‘outhouse rider’, much to my dismay. But all in all, other than the diving related Nom-de plume I use on forums, ‘Outrider’ is still used too.
I was looking for a new on-line identifier, so I just looked around my apartment and picked a couple of random things. A painting of an eagle that I have in my “dining room” (its pretty much my building area now, I don’t eat there), and a bottle of Danny Cash hot sauce…after that I just picked some random numbers. Had some trolls I had to ditch from my days of posting videos on YouTube. That was the end of “social media” for me. Too much drama, and too many sick people runnin around on those places.
Well, my name is Robin Gronovius, but my family has always called me Rob since I was a kid. Anyone who calls me Robin doesn’t know me. If someone knows me and calls me Robin, I am often in trouble.
My wife only calls me Robin, so I’m always in trouble with her.
I was at a Padres baseball game 3 rows behind home plate and at that time we had a player named Fred McGriff. And back in the day there were commercials about safety with an anthropomorphic dog named McGruff that advised folks on locking doors and crime related issues. So everyone called McGriff “The Crime Dog”. Me and a few buddies were watching the game and Crime Dog became Dog. My sur name is Keaveney so that’s how I got to be KeavDog - there are many more Dog friends of mine
I played a role in a couple of stage re-creations of the old “Tom Corbett, Space Cadet” radio & TV series. My name is Chuck, so “Cadet Chuck” became my handle.
My forum “handle” comes from the old “Rocky Jones, Space Ranger” TV show of the 1950s, a show which was said to have been an inspiration for Gene Roddenberry’s “Star Trek.” My avatar is an image of Rocky’s ship.
