Thought you may like to see some photos of the winning entry in the local model show for the small diorama section.
I hasten to add that’s it not mine though i wish it was. The guy that built this has won the diorama category for the past three years and if i had half his ability i’d be very happy.
Apologies if some of the photos are a bit out of focus. I gotta get myself a better camera (or learn how to use the one i have).
That really is quite nice. I wouldn’thave put the big “ramp” up to the side there (I don’t think they would have bothered), but all in all it’s some very impressive work!
Sure they would… This isn’t a crew job, these guys in the coveralls are likely from the company maintenence sections, and would be able to carry stuff like that around with 'em… If the German Heer worked like the US Army when it came to maintenance, the crew’s job stops at fluid levels and belt inspections back there and removing the armor plate for the mechanics if they decide they have to pull the pack. Mechanics don’t “turn bolts” on the outside of a track, that’s the crew’s job… Wrenches’ll only watch that part of the job… Heh, the unbelievable part of the dio are the two mechs refueling the track… 'Course, they could be the fuel-dawgs from the Service Company as well…
Possibly, if it’s on the Western Front… It could be in Warsaw instead, but I doubt it. Add to it that, since the Sturmtiger was designed for fighting in urban areas, it’s in its natural environment here, and one AFV is hard to spot from the air in the middle of town… Any pilot flying low enough to see it would be awfully busy ducking all the Flak being thrown up from the supporting ADA units nearby so tank-plinking wouldn’t be advisable… The only way it’d likely be threatened from the air was if the Allies had eyes on it from the ground and had some fighter-bombers on-station nearby… It’s also pretty obvious from the off-loaded fuel cans that the track went to the mechs, rather than the mechs going to the track, so it’s probably a fair distance from the outskirts of town…
Things seem to be quiet at this time, as evidenced by the Volksgrenadier talking with the Sturmtiger’s TC, perhaps showing him where his troops are positioned, so I’m guessing that this is, indeed, taking place in Germany proper…
There’s a good diorama name… “Feeding the Cat”…[:D]
I’ve noticed that more & more folks are startin’ to use those leaves… It’s almost a fad… Me, I’ll stick with Spring & Summer or the occasional stand of conifers in the Winter… I’ve never like Fall anyway…
