lion roar RS3501 IJN Battleship YAMATO 1/350 SUPER DETAIL Limited edition

Hi all. I have question to you guys. I found set of this nice upgrade PE for 1/350 Yamato but is from 2012. Is better buy this set or newer PE sets for Yamato for example from Pontos 35003F1 and F2? Lion Roar edit has 20 PE sheets.

Depends on how far you want to go with the detail. If the 20 sheets are duplicates with only minor additional upgrades it might be worth to buy the smalker set.

Your experience with PE is important as well. If your comfortable bending and attaching it then using all 20 frets might be right up your ally, if not it may be an expensive exercise in frustration.

Which ever you choose have fun and enjoy it. If you are able please post some pictures

Hi @armornut. I think that PE look more realistic than most of sprues?

I built the 1/350 Tamiya Yamato (old tool) with that exact PE super detail set not too long ago.

I know there are other sets out the but I do not have any experience with them to offer a comparison. I can tell you that it is a very good detail set for the old tool Yamato. I suspect the newer PE sets might be better designed around the new tool kit.

Depending on the amount of detail your after it will fill the need for most items except the super detail of the smaller guns and the aircraft.

While most of the PE is fairly strong as far as PE goes, the hand rails on top the guns and the rear crane assembly are very delicate.

The PE set is also short the trolly rails for the lower boat deck as well as the hand rail for around the aircraft storage pit.

You will find that the kit and PE instructions do not always compliment each other so pay careful attention to each assembly sequence.

You can see my build in the forum under the Japanese ships group build.

Hope this helps…

Whole heartedly agree SamborO, PE adds a dimention to the kit that if well executed provides an incredible amount of detail. I apologize if I misunderstood your post.

I build mostly a stash, however I like armor and planes, I also use PE to upgrade the molded on detail. I have a few shios in my stash and yes I have PE sets for them…just haven’t mustered up the guts to start one.

As mentioned before, have fun and if possible please post pictures.
