Ebay, and patience is your best bet. If its a rare model be prepared to pay premium, in general, even the junkiest of junk models get expensive if someone thinks they are “rare and desirable”, seen some real crappy Pyro kits go for gold simply because they were scarse.
Here’s one: http://www.oldmodelkits.com/index.php?detail=19840&cat=Military%20Ship&manu=Lindberg
Frankly I question whether there’s any reason to pay that kind of money for such a kit - unless the purchaser is a genuine collecter wanting to make an investment.
There has been at least one other kit representing a merchant ship with concealed weapons: the Aurora German raider Atlantis. That one seems to be one of the rarest and most expensive of all old plastic kits.
And the Revell See Adler…
There is , or was, an Atlantis on Evilbay last night, but its $150+, as I said, the rarer its percieved, the more they want, even if its a poor kit to begin with
Sheesh … and I built the See Adler as a kid. I even have the book Von Luckner wrote. That model may still be in a box somewhere …
JACKEL,to my knowledge ,LINDBERG NEVER ,marketed in the areas where I lived a "Q"ship. Now I do REMEMBER the AURORA “Q” ship model.Unless you have deep pockets don,t even try for this one at all !. I would say if you can,do this. Get a REVELL model model of the U.S.S. RANDALL.It would be easier to backdate this to the “Q” ship type. TANKERbuilder
I built this version as a child.

Haven’t seen another of these kits in many decades.
I not only built it as a kid, I took it down to the pond and sank it with a BB gun! Do you think a salvage expedition is in order?
Fred
…yes and no…
For everyone’s edification and enjoyment, hooray, this kit is available again thanks to Round 2. They seem to be hell bent for leather on re-issuing many long, long OOP kits and this venture is probably not based upon any real demand for these kits. But since astronomical prices and rarity for the vintage kits exists–well, there’s going to be some demand (by those old enough to remember this kit). [Y]
Apparently this kit was also known as “Sea Raider” and “Decoy Ship” at one time also. Round 2 has kept the original box art which is pretty nice. Review here: http://web.ipmsusa3.org/content/q-ship
Thanks for the link to the review.
I just bought the re-issue.
Thanks, Round Two !!!
Revenue Cutter Harriet Lane and Fulton’s Clermont are on next in line for purchase on my list [:D]
I received my model last month after being on back order since last October,
Bought one just now after reading my post or you already knew? I was going to get one but now I’m not so sure. I’ve got to stop my Lindberg sickness sometime…soon. [8-)]
Also, the LCI is available again too. Also 12" long like the Q Ship and by my estimation a decent kit that can be reworked a little to make it good if not great. I really, really like Lindberg’s old predilection for amphibious warfare subjects and anything out of the ordinary.
Yep–aware of the Clermont and the Southern Belle too. Neat kits and all of these are ripe for motorization per the originals or R/C conversion. [H]
