Lindberg

I was wondering if anyone has built any of the lindberg plane or car kits that they released this last year or so I;m wanting to build a series of planes and dont have a big budget? The cost is good but they have to have some detail to start with. as for the cars I was wondering about the new hot rods? any help Thanks Dale

For the cost they are not bad. You will not get a lot of detail. For someone starting out they would be good kits to hone your skills on. Then move on to the more expensive ones.

They’re strictly 1960s model technology, but build up quite well, look like they’re the right shape, and with some scratch-building and superdetailing in the cockpits and engines… I’ve built a number of them over the years, even did the “motorized” kits and still have several in the stash, namely the Curtiss P-6E “Hawk”, the Stearman N2S/PT-17 “Kaydet” (Which is currently on the bench), and the Curtiss JN4D “Jenny”… As far as I know, they’re the only game in town for these three aircraft types in 1/48th as well… Just be ready for a shock to the system upon opening when all that bright yellow plastic hits ya in the face… They also come with fine piano wire for rigging them, but use your references instead of the kit rigging diagram…

Once the glue is set, they’re quite rugged as well, something that many biplane kits are not…

The XFY Pogo has a mild case of rivets and no interior but looks good when properly assembled and can make a good practice kit for an aluminum finish. Alas, my kit is incomplete due to the need of correct decals.

It would be nice if Lindberg copied & enlarged the 1/72 Kopro Pogo kit decals.

Perhaps next Christmas Santa will give me a new scanner and printer.

Lindberg kits do not have a lot of details but they did make kits of a lot of unusual subjects. I made a lot of them in past years and still have a few in my stash. The Pogo has always been one of my favorites.

Lindberg is somewhat hit and miss though as they are one of those companies that bought a lot of molds from other companies going out of buisness. Always best to ask about specific kits as they range from nice to almost unbuildable.

Their car kits are probably the best overall, many being done in the 1990s or later. The 1934 Ford Truck, 1953 Ford Victoria, 1961 Impala, 1966 Chevelle, 1964 Dodge 330, 1964 Plymouth Belevedere, 1967 Oldsmobile 442, 1996 Ford Crown Vic police car, Ford F-150 and 2007 Dodge Charger are all nice models with decent fit and detail.

I think all of the aircraft are all older kits, the only ones I have personal experience with are the Seaking and Jolly Green Giant helicopters. Not terrible kits but minimal detail. You can get better Seaking kits but the HH-3 is the only one easily found (Revell and Aurora did it as well, but both of those are out of production). The HH-3 can be kit bashed with a Fujimi or Revell Seaking to make a nice detailed model.
