Lindberg Skipjack Chesapeake Bay Oyster Boat

Say the name “Lindberg” and its almost like a punch line to most modelers. But there’s one thing I have always appreciated about Lindberg, and that’s their line of sailing ship kits, and also commercial work boats like the Tuna Clipper, Shrimp Boat, and this Chesapeake Bay Oyster Boat. Most of these were re-pops of old Pyro/Lifelike kits with the original toolings going back 50 years or more. I’m grateful to Lindberg for keeping these around, because it’s unlikely this subject matter will ever be done in styrene again.

Although they have all the issues you’d expect with old-tooling kits, many of these old sailers build up into really pleasing models. I just finished this one - it’s back-to-work time tomorrow, so I’m going to have to cool it for a while. But I’m really happy to have built this great old kit!

That’s a great model. I completely agree; they filled or contined a need for work boats at a nice large scale. I only have the lightship in my stash, but I look forward to building it some day.

Did you replace the mast? It looks really good.

Except for the molded styrene “sails”, it’s a really nice looking model…

Nice looking build ![:D][Y]

Modelers are indeed fortunate that Lindberg chose to re-issue many old kits.

I hope the new owners continue the practice.

Part of me agrees, but we all have to step back and realize that NO ONE in the plastic ship model business ever though that it would become the hyper-scale, hyper-detail market it has become. I have that kit as well, never built it, but glad we have it in the stash.

I was thinking just the other day on how far our hobby has come, just the market for “garage kits” not to mention the after market add-ons. I think many of us have become spoiled - myself included in that number.

Looks nice! I build a Lindberg kit now and then. Have the shrimp boat in my stash and it will be the next Lindberg kit in the queue to my bench.

I like both Glencoe and Lindberg because of the subjects they do- stuff no one else would touch. Yeah, you have to work hard to clean up flaws and enhance the detail, but still easier than a scratch project.

Like the old Henny Youngman joke; ’ Take Lindberg…Please! ’

In this case I would take a Lindberg, great job!
