The real life 1 to 1 scale Frence frigate L’HERMIONE does her sailing crossing the Atlantic Ocean last year. Here are some photos of that event.

I’m just filled with envy thinking of a once in a life time experience of being a crew member on this historic voyage on a replica frigate that once was involved in the American Revolution. This Concorde class frigate brought French General Lafayette to America in support of the War of Independence in 1780. Unfortunately, L’ HERMIONE was run aground in 1793 and became a total loss.

She sure is a beauty of a dinghy! Arrgh!

I really like the picture of her becalmed. A great example showing the sails simply hanging. A real-life scene made to be copied.

I really like the pictures of her heeling under sail on their website.

That really gets me going.

Interesting no topgallants.

She’s a sweet ship. Longish on the keel and short on the masts.

I hadn’t noticed that until you pointed it out - the becalmed photo is the only one showing topgallants set- in the other pics they aren’t even bent on to the yards.

The thing that jumped out at me is the height of the bulwarks on the main deck between the main and foremast. That is a huge basin that could trap a LOT of water in a bad storm, seriously threatening stability at a time when the ship may desperately need all it has!
