Wow! I hope you find the kit. That would be a great conversion. Looks like engines, fuselage windows, external antenae & radomes, and the wings would need modification, at the very least. Good luck on it!
Vance, yes I have tried multiple places. most of the more popular sites have been looked at.
I think it is going to come down to someone having it stashed in their…uhm… stash, and striking a deal. I remain hopeful that I will find this kit.
Devil Dawg, yes sir it will be a great conversion project. I have seen it done before so I know it is possible. I am looking forward to giving it a go if only i can get my hands on the darn thing.
You’ll need two kits. The CG bird is a Falcon 20, which is, as you can see, longer than the 10.
The Falcon 20 is a wonderful airplane. It’s the first aircraft I experienced a barrel roll in. Never disturbed the vapor in the top of the liquor bottles in the dry bar.
I know someone who made a conversion of a 10 to a 20. He hooked me up with the piece I need to extend it. So as of right now, I can make the mods without a second one. However, if I can get two of these kits then great. Problem is, I can’t even find one!
I’ve only flown in the USCG version of the aircraft. Not as comfortable as the private jet I imagine.
There is no real way to get a Falcon 20 from a 10, they are completely different airplanes. The cabin on the 10 is a smaller diameter and the airplane is smaller overall. Mach 2 did a very crude Falcon 20 in 1/72 and that is the only one I know of. The HU-25 also has different engines than the 20. The Mach 2 kit has 2 sets of engines but I don’t think either are the Lycomings of the HU-25. I surely wish there was a 1/48 Falcon 20.
The Revell Germany kit is a Hasegawa re-release, you might have more luck finding one of the Hasegawa boxings, if you wish to proceed.
On the roll in a Falcon, the factory demo pilots were in the habit of doing that. They tried it at Rancho Murieta near Sacramento and made a smoking hole when the pilot dished out of the roll at low altitude. Not a good way to sell an airplane to the Chief Executive.
Well, it might be harder for me because I used to fly a 10 and it has a whole different personality that a 20. But this is modeling and you are free to do it anyway you want to. How true it is that most people can’t tell the difference. I feel they are expecting us to tell the truth as best we can. But any 20 is better than none at all, I’m sure of that.
I actually did one in 1/48 scale ,based on real prints .this was right at the time that the media announced the aircraft to the public.concerning the U.S.C.G.acquisition. I worked for a company that converted 20s for FED-EX and others -plus-executive versions.I did electronic applications (cockpit panels, radio mounting locations etc.) The 20 was a sweet bird even empty.I got to fly one two years after I worked there.I still like my old warbird better and hope she,s still flying. HA! Great minds! I almost made a fuel comment due to it being neked but opted not to. I wanted to keep it legit (model related) in case “someone” was watching. LOL
I didn’t fly the 20, although I evaluated one for a company I worked for. I thought the 10 was perhaps over-engineered for the job it had to do, but it was a very well made airplane and flew well.
