I was thinking of making a Diorama of a Cattle Car full of prisoners rolling past some children who are playing. Unsure as to where it’s going, and unusual in the child’s perspective.
Do any companies make stuff like this? I could imagine this to be a hard subject to find, as not many people would like it sitting on their shelf.
Definitely unusual. My only suggestion for children would be to use 1/72 scale figures if the dio is in 1/35 scale and modify them. Example, Afrika Corp figures in shorts could pass for small children wearing shorts. For the rail cattle car, you would probably need to buy a rail car (maybe from dragon) and modify significantly. Tough subject…good luck!
whose prisoners? allied, german…? i saw an interesting dio (on missing-lynx?) of jewish people being loaded onto boxcars by the nazis chilling…
the boxcars were scratchbuilt i think verlinden and a couple othr companies make children jst look around prisoners, hmmmmm, id say jst to take a couple unarmd figs n use those maybe someone makes prisoners in 1/35, but the selesctions probly gonna be slim
Stuka, if you build it right it could be a very interesting dio. We must remember that when we build dioramas of battles or of other subjects that we in essence are trying to recreate history. Unfortunately cattle cars in Eastern Europe during Nazi Germany’s reign was part of history. I hope you checked out the dio called “Dispatch”. Again a part of history. We should not worry about pics or posters or flags being used in dioramas that are being used to depict history. They represent accurate depictions. Good luck.
It would be a most interesting diorama to say the least and I do hope that it works out for you. Civillian figures are a problem and those that make and carry them are costly,I do wish that Dragon in their wisdom with all the wonderful fig kits they have produced
would see the need for the everyday civillian figures, the dimennsion of modelling would take another step forward.Good luck with this idea Stuka, look forward to the result.
Thanks for the link renarts, that is truly a thought provoking, and look in the mirror dio. It depicts the real horror of WWII that must never be forgotten. A true depiction of ‘man’s inhumanity toward man’.
Thanks for the link. Very sad diorama. As for the prisoners, I’m not to woried about what or who they are, I want them hidden in the darkness of the car, so probably outlines will be all that is visible. I don’t want any faces visible, just hands out the windows, as a way of appearing dark and strange in the children’s perspective.
Mike, that is one hell of a diorama. Thanks for that. It is turly the most thought provoking dio I have ever seen. The little girl actually hit me in the heart. That is the magic of Dioramas. Thanks again.
