Just a quick question. I’m building the airfix BI lancaster in 1/72. Decals included include aircraft PA474, which is the bbmf lanc, also included are decals for ED888, which has the same squadron and aircraft letters PM-M2. I’ve searched online, and can’t find any consistant info on either of these aircraft, if any one can help with any info, it would be muchly appreciated.
here we go heres some pictures

I think I found some info. on ED888, UL-M2,Bomber Comands top scoring heavy bomber with 140 ops.Flew with 103/101/576/103 squadrons from 1943-45.She was scrapped without thought Jan.8 1947 after sitting at a MU. for two years or so.When ED888 was with the 103 squadron it also used PM-M2 .All I could find on PA474 is,it was with the 82 PR.squadron and worked east Africa until retired. PA474 didnt see combat as delivery was 08/45. I hope this was a little help.
The Airfix Lanc is not strictly correct to depict PA474of the BBMF as she has an oval bomb aimers window below the nose instead of the rectangular one in the kit, PA474 also has exposed exhaust stubs. She was intended for use in the far east with Tiger Force but as the war ended did not go. Modellers Datafile on the Lancaster shows the differances as well as a lot of detail drawings and pictures. Hopes this will be of some use.
Thank you all very much. I enjoy making ww2 aircraft in 1/72, and this kit i found to be lacking in information, even squadron details. I think i may have to scratch build the decals UL-M2 stickman is talking about. I tried a masking technique (hours of work), on the halifax i’ve just rebuilt and had good results, i’ll post photo’s in a week or 2, camera is with a friend at the moment. Thank you all for you help once again.
Hello Alan-my wife might get upset if I am talking to Charlotte! Also currently building the Airfix Lanc. Good reference for the BBMF Lanc in the book “Lancaster - a bombing legend” by Rick Radell and Mike Vines.
ISBN 1-85152-969-1 Pictures clearly show oval bomb aimers window and absence of flame dampers on the exhausts. Also some turret and wheel well shots, open bomb bay and some cowling off pics too. Might just be a diorama in there somewhere! Enjoy[:D]
hey simon u. the reason i’m logged on as Charlotte is my wife, (charlotte) originally logged onto this site for me, I can’t figure out how to change user name…
Cheers for the help, i’ve just about finished the lanc, having trouble with the masking of the canopy, but it’s coming along well.
