This is the tamiya KV-II 1/35 with some minor scratch built details and Master Club KV-1 KV-2 track links . Paints are from Tamiya and oil wash and drybrush with modelmaster acrylics. I have some Mig pigments coming in the mail and waiting to try them out on this beast !! My first model in a long time and first with weathered and worn details . So what do you think ? Next on my list is a Stug III G… Thanks for looking
Added new pictures with the correct format for this forum . Now you can see finally lol what it looks like
Thanks alot … The stug will be Tamiya 35197 with some PE parts from eduard(sp) . Might get some track links , but i almost went insane with the last Master links. Those pins were a nightmare , lost like 25 of them to the carpet monster . The end result is worth it though … I am adding larger pictures to the KV tank .
Looks like the forum software is being quirky again. It may not work for everyone, but if you click to the right of the thumbnails it opens the pics in full-size… [%-)]
i just copied the decals from the kit … should read for motherland russia … i tried looking on the net for help , but couldn’t find a site to help with it
Wow, that’s some buggy software!!! Unacceptable, IMO.
Anyways, that trick worked for me too, and popped up a full size pic. In any case, the build quality is quite good. No marks or skuffs, or anything like that. Did you use the original kit tracks? They too are very well done. Some of the paint scuffs are a little too large, IMO, and in unlikely places, such as between the turret ladder rungs. I would try to get some smaller, more random scuffs and scratches in there.
Well it looks like i will get the chance to try your ideas on the scuffs … Sadly i tired airbrushing tamiya flat base and i got a white film on the model …ughhh!!! . I tried washing it with water it and looks fine after that , but when drying the film returns … I am thinking maybe i added too much thinner … Thinner used Tamiya and Tamiya Flat base . Can you use a flat base from a spray can on acrylics ? Thats the reason why i chose to airbrush the base , thought it would ruin the paint . Famous last words i said before spraying… hmmm maybe i should do a test … hint listen to your inner thoughts lol … well here is the pic … any ideas on a repair ?? Note some areas are clean due to the water still drying , but the white areas are dried
Oh the tracks are from ModelClub from Russia i think . They are resin and are put together with pins one on each side . They had to be drilled to allow the pins to fit . Bit of cleaning of molding process and your ready to go . I drilled them all out at work and put them together i would say maybe total time 20 hours . I lost like 25 pins and i feared i would run out , but whew i made it !
Sorry to tell you… Tamiya X-21 Flat Base isn’t a flat coat in its own right. rather, it’s an additive for gloss paints to make them flat. To make a flat clear coat, you need to add it to Clear Gloss (X-22) in about a 4(clear):1(flat base) ratio. Using it straight will give the translucent white effect which you have discovered. Some people have been able to recover from this by giving the model a coat of clear gloss and then re-coating with a “proper” flat.
This is something which has caught many unaware over the years, so you’re not alone. [:-^]
