KV-2 IMPROVED Pics....

here’s my Trumpeter KV-2 built OOB, nothing special. Painted with White Ensign paints, and weathered with Mig pigments. The figure is from Trumpeter aswell… comments and the like welcome!

these pics should be better!

nice job. i like the non-battle damage and lack of 2 tons of stuff normally associated with german and american tanks.

i have so much in the queue and really want to get into 1/350 ww1 ship and predreadnought ship building but i have to get one of these. i just finished the trumpeter kv-1 (see post in armor section). learned a lot and i just seem to have this thing for early soviet tanks. did you have fun with the tracks?

i like to play steel panthers WAW and be the soviets during barbarossa. buy a platoon of kv-2s and just flatten mk-IIIs while listening to 5cm at rounds bounce off.

Hi James,

These pics came out really blurry…can’t see this beast very well.

regards,

Steve

if you are doing digital, check out this post /forums/819751/ShowPost.aspx

i went through 3 iterations of taking pics and each time was better thanks to a bunch of suggestions.

Thanks wayne… I don’t know what it is with the pics… I guess it’s the white back drop and such… or it could be the fact that I didn’t really care because none of them turned out after someone messed with my settings for a white backdrop… I have a couple here that aren’t so bad, but are a result of my fooling around, trying to get my settings back to what they were! I’ll get them up later. Thanks for looking, wayne, I didn’t have any problem with the tracks at all… tracks are my least favourite part, even more than the wheels!

i had some pictures with a flash that i couldn’t even fix in photoshop. i had so much problem with the tracks i wore a deep blister in my thumb after 2 hours and got nowhere. even posted a topic (individual track links). went back 2 weekslater and had both sides together in an hour. i’m sure next time will be even easier. haven’t tried mig; i have been using bragdon powders

I never use flash in my pictures! It’s a big no no lol… Migs are ok, but Bragdon’s are my first choice… some of the pigments are bragdon… they go on better when you use thinner… especially for getting rust around a bolt or something. Mig’s don’t do as well for some reason!

i’ll try the thinner. i have created a wash with bragdon and water but, unless i am trying for a liquid look, dry dust and dirt just seem to turn out better. my landing craft won’t be weathered much at all but it will be my first airbrushing (maybe). i need to learn it before starting 1/350 ship models. i will aslo continue ro dabble with using artist tube acrylics.

A little blurry…but from what I can tell, a fine looking build! Nice job!

James,

Always nice to see your work! How are you doing these days?

Hey guys, thanks for the comments… didn’t realize they were blurry when I posted them, they looked good on the camera! Anyway, here’s some new ones, should give a better perspective!

Charles, things are going well. I got a job finally in a hospital as a patient registrar in the Emergency Room. Lot’s of fast paced action to keep my days busy, and the time flyin! How are you doin?

heya james[:)]-- this set of pics look MUCH MUCH better!-- nice representation – I got one of these ‘tall boys’ in my stash- -where are the tow cables?-- such a prominant feature on the kv series of tanks–any how rest looks really good and so does the figure! – nice job man!-- tread[8D]

Heh, thanks tread… the cables are still in the box… I’m not a big fan of them, but I might put them on yet… Thanks for the kind words!

I noticed the cables too, but you beat me to the answer. They seem so prevelant on German and Soviet tanks, but it is your build. BTW, another fine build my friend. Gotta love all the great Soviet tanks, and no camo! Hahaha I think you need to do a winter scheme next.

Nice KV-2 build! It looks a little stark without any markings, but maybe that’s the way they’re supposed to be? Keep up the good work!

AH YES, James! Much better pics–now I can really see it shine!

This is really a nice build! Good paint and weathering! I like the bare look, sans markings–I’ve seen enough photos of these with no markings at all, so it stands up to accuracy!

I know what you’re saying about the tow cables; I hate 'em too, but they really add realism to the finished product. C’mon…grit yer teeth, go pull 'em out of the box and work on 'em! Your KV will love you for it! [:X][(-D]
