Well, there obviously is plenty of interest coming from the other thread. So, as in tradition to my other GB’s, I go by guidelines, not rules. They are as follows:
Kit must pretain to the battle of Kursk and the timeframes involved
Kit must be unstarted or barely
Any and all aftermarkets and scratchbuilding are acceptable
Any scale
Badge can only be claimed upon completion of model
Most importantly, share your work and or problems
Post pics if possible
Chatting is encouraged
By all means have fun and enjoy the Group Build
Kick off is for July 5th, actual first day of the battle. That gives all a good month to get prepared. As tempting as it is, no early starting!
Here’s the badges:
It has been requested to download the badge of your building to your computer and upload it to photobucket or whatever you use.
Good deal! I’m looking forward to this one alot. My first GB and I hope to learn more about Kursk from this. I’v always strayed more towards the western side.
Plan to build Dragon’s Marder II … although July 15 is a ways away and maybe a KV will follow me home![:-^]
Good question. Maybe Hermisminiatures or another Tiger expert can help me out. Would the Tiger’s of “Das Reich” at Kursk be early or mid-production? [%-)]
Sign me up for the Ferdinand, 1/35 Dragon Ferdinand and/or Elefant kits.
And yes, both early and Mid Tigers were at Kursk, but there would have been more Mid variants. The freshly-equipped SS Panzergrenadier Divisions (Leibstandarte Adolph Hitler, Das Reich, and Totenkopf) would have had almost all or all Mid production vehicles, while Grossdeutschland’s Tiger battalion would probably have had an even mix, since the majority of their Tigers were delivered earlier, in time for the Third Battle of Karkhov in January '43.
Tiger expert? Glad you think so. I just happen to be good at reading and using Google.
put me down for a T-34/76 model 1943, i’ve only built 4 or 5 road wheels in the kit then put it back on the shelf and left it alone since, if thats ok, other than that i’ve only done research, you mentioned AM, is scratchbuilding ok as well?..a group build will give me some good motivation to stick to one project [:D]
That’s overall quite a nice kit. I might recommend PE skirt armor, though - the included plastic looks quite fake when done. If you get the Aber set, which I liked a lot, you’ll get the exhaust shrouds too.
If you’d rather not monkey with PE - don’t feel pressured[;)]
Absolutely. Plus, they’re a great learning experience. I am so ready for this GB. It’s been quite a few years since my last armor build, so I see this as a great opportunity to pick the expert’s brains a bit and apply what skills I’ve picked up in the interim. Plus, got the Tamiya P. IV H kit, the modelkasten tracks, a Jordi Rubio aluminum L/48, some Eduard and OTM PE, Third Group decals, lots of styrene sheet/stock, & resin nuts & bolts…yeah, I’d say I’m as ready as I’ll ever be! [;)]
Not sure if all Ausf. H at Kursk were early production, but if they were, they would probably have the earlier drive sprocket, idler wheel and rubber return rollers.
Eric & Jean-Michel, it’s kit #209, which is listed as the early version, so I hope I’m OK. [;)] It provides two different drive sprockets (so I’ll have to do a little research), one style of idler sprocket, and rubber return rollers. Should be a fun project. I’m really looking forward to this GB! [tup]
Can more than one claim the same kit? I’d like to build my Dragon T-34/1941, but I see it’s already claimed.
Gotta say, though, I may not be able to complete: it’s gonnabe an eventful summer: I may be starting a new job and moving, or if I don’t, I’ll be moving my girlfriend to Lovely Fort Laudrerdale. The permanent model-building workshop (i.e., my dining room table) may become a thing of the past!
I will be building Dragons SdKfz 131 Marder II. Got alot going on as well this summer but I think I can finish it up by October. This will be my first GB as well so this should be cool!
