who makes the best kubelwagen. please think of price too when you make your post. Im thinking about going with the tamiya type 82. P.S. im talking 1/35 scale and European theater. 43
Tamiya makes good Kubels. However if your a stickler, Italeri also makes a great Kubel
s for a great price.

what is the difference?
Same vehicle, two different manufacturers. The new Tamiya one is the best out there. It is very detailed and looks good. Older Tamiya and Italeri kits are simplified in the suspensions and lack some interior detailing. There are actually quite a few other manufacturers of Kubel models as well. Go to Great Models Webstore, http://www.greatmodels.com , and search for “1/35 Kubelwagen” and you will get about 75 kits and accessory sets. They vary in price as well. The Dragon and Tamiya are probably the best.
I have to agree with HvyArty, the new Tamiya is probably the best out there. I built the Dragon version not too long ago and was pleased with the kit. It has a good amount of detail, and the suspension is accurate. I thought the the motor left a little to be demanded, but I was able to take care of that with some wire ect.
The Tamiya kit is newer and the tooling is better, but both are the top of the Kubelwagen line right now.
I also came across a Revell Germany 1/16 KW, that was really tempting. Just too big though!
The Dragon Kubelwagen is a reboxed one made by Bego/Hasegawa. Very nice kit but rather pricey in the original Hasegawa/Bego box. Tamiya’s Kubelwagen (new) is really nice and not too expensive ($10-13).
Italeri’s Kubelwagen has been out for many years and is not a bad kit. Heller recently reboxed it as well. The old Tamiya Kubelwagen is to be avoided (boxart has a German officer standing next to the Kubelwagen).
the Bego/ Hasegawa kit is a great kit, it comes with the roof and side windows and engine
the new Tamiya kit is great, theres a optional engine kit for it
I did not know that DML makes the Kubel.
Thanks for the heads up.

the new Tamiya Shwimwagen is a very nice kit too
Tamiya Tamiya!!

DML also “makes” more Kubelwagens than any other manufacturer, although as I sated, it is the Hasegawa/Bego Kubelwagen reboxed with DML extras inside. They even make a medical conversion for the Kubelwagen. It comes with some German medical personnel (doctors and nurses) and is kit number 9055:
There is a cold weather Kubelwagen with cold weather starter and engine:
The regular European Kubelwagen:
The DAK Kubelwagen w/Rommel:
The Kubelwagen with Infantry trailer:
Happyhobby.com lists these DML Kubelwagens.
apparantly someone at Dragon is a VW fan!
I buildt a lot of Kübelwagen in several versions. The Italerie-model is very simple. Dragon´s models are very fine, but the Tamyia- models of every type of the Kübelwagen, also the “Schwimmwagen”, are just great
Spend the money, it´s worth of it.
Yours, Stephan.
