Krylon Low Odor Clear Matte finish

Has anyone used this? I’m tired of paying almost $6 a can for a dinky little Testors Dullcote.

I haven’t used that particular brand but I have used a clear Matte Acrylic Sealer before. I used a generic brand that I picked up in an A.C.Moore store. The brand is “Plaid” and it came in a 12oz. spray can for a reasonable price. It was about 3 or 4 years ago so I don’t remember what the price was(that’s what happens to old farts like me, it’s called “CRS” can’t remember s**t). I put it over a gloss white enamel paint job on a Mig-3 that I built with no problem. It dulled down the gloss just enough to make it look good. The plane took a 3rd place at the next show I took it to. I’ve also used it on a few of my 1/72 aircraft that were painted with Vallejo acrylics with no problems. It feels like I still have about 1/2 can left so whatever the price, I think that it was worth it. I have a couple cans of Dullcote around somewhere that I picked up at a show for a decent price but I haven’t used them yet.

I’d say to buy a can of the Matte Sealer, paint a few spare parts with various paints and try the sealer on them and see how they look. “Nothing ventured, nothing gained” right?

Hope that this info helps.

i use ACE NOW gray and black primer and it works great. have airbrushed acrylic Tamiya, MMA, Vallejo, Vallejo Air, PolyS and silly puttyed masked with no problems.

I have…seems to work fine.

I use a lot of various Krylon products, but have not tried the low-odor stuff. I have used both their gloss and flat clears. I still prefer the Testors glosscoat because the nozzle seems to be finer, the Krylon really is more like a fire hose. Love Krylon primer, and the flat clear is okay.

Don,

I recently purchased and used that low odor Krylon Matte. Its just my subjective opinion but I dont believe its as dull as Testors Dullcoat. I’ve tried every dull/matte coat out there and I still haven’t found anything that’s equals the Testors. Could be I’m just biased.

I’m not saying its bad, just not the equal of Testors.

Yeah, I have used several glosscoats, and still do, but for dullcoat I stick with Testors.

I have used a couple of clear urethane matt coats and they are close to Testors. I do like polyurethane semi-gloss- there are are several brands I have used successfully. I find those particularly nice to thin and airbrush.

For matte finish, I pretty much only use Krylon Artists Matte Finish. Never had it affect the paint or decals and its so easy to use. I have not tried or even seen the low odor stuff.
